Hey great post thanks

I have a questions regarding the connection of my sub woofer

My amp has the Sub woofer out single RCA plug, but my subwoofer has a left / right RCA input on the back. To which of them should I connect it? Or should I use a cheap Y connection to make the single output from the receiver connect to both left and right on the sub?

thanks

I love it, its a big black mean looking machine box,.

but Im not sure Im getting the most out of it. I dont know what the X Over and Phase knobs are for, for instance, and Im not sure if it should be connected from the Subwoofer out RCA of my Dolby prologic HK AVI 250 or from the Subwoofer Out RCA plug of my HK ADP DD processor!

My receiver only has crossover settings of 100Hz, 150Hz, and 200Hz, therefore I'd like to use the crossover in my eD A3-250. How do I go about configuring this type of setup?

I have both LFE In, and Line In on the sub. I'm using Line in with a Y-splitter from my receivers SW Line Out.

My question arises from; if I have my receiver set to a 100Hz crossover and my subwoofer set to a 60Hz crossover, what happens to the 61Hz - 99Hz information?

Hope I make sense and thanks for any advice,

-Brian

I can only think of two reasons the thread has been "unstuck":

1) The mods don't like all of the links to other sites...

2) The mods don't want the rest of us mere mortals to feel inferior because you have MULTIPLE sticky threads to your name :p.

Seriously though, great thread. The amount of work you've put into both this and your "Movies with Bass" thread is astounding! Your dedication has led to many hours of my enjoyment, and I am confident I am not alone in this experience. Thanks for all of your hard work! :D

1) b64 ..... BINGO!!!
2) I only have 2 sticky threads, not trying for a third.

Movies with BASS thread takes alot of my time. So thank you for your support and to all the others who keep bumping this thread.

ps. all the links in this thread are in my other 101 "stickied" thread. You do the math.

No problem. I figured I'd give some props...they're certainly due! And as for keeping your threads visible, that shouldn't be an issue, either. You keep making 'em, I'll keep bumping 'em :D.

Think this will be the first thread with more bumps than actual content.

If you're getting this many bumps with no actual content, maybe a sticky isn't as useful as a thread lock. =\

To me, the first couple posts of this thread are gold. Dr. Pain has put together a comprehensive listing of various links concerning subwoofer set up. There are many forum members who have questions about subwoofer setup, which is why several of us have tried to keep this thread in the first page.

A thread lock would send this thread to obscurity, which IMHO would be a shame. However, if this this thread was stickied, then all the bumps and useless posts should be deleted.

Please Help. I hooked up a onkyo705 with surround with no trouble and a buuddy had a infinity ps-12 to give me so I read your post and hooked up the pre-out to the left or right rca jack and it works just fine on cds, dvds But there is something really wierd. It works with the radio stations too, all but three popular stations, those three are highly static and one static's so much that theres nothing but static and no music at all but if I turn the sub off they instantly become crystal clear or if I turn on the sub and unplug the jack it clears up and when I slowly move towards the sub's jack with the jack from the receiver it starts to satatic before I even plug it in. I don't think it's a loop problem because it only does it on 3 radio stations and nothing else.
Can You Help. Pleeeeeease.

Ok I figured I'll ask and hopefully someone can help,if not then I at least asked :) I am hoping someone can help me set up my Caliber with REW. I have it I think where it is the best so far but would need to use REW in order to get it where it should be. I know I know I should read the Wizard web site (forum) I did but it's going right over my head :) I was hoping I could get someone who lives in Arizona with this program to come over and help a friend out :) and help me optimize my system(or sub).
I have a 3808 with 5 speakers,here is a pic if your curious.

Dr. Pain I have a question for you. When I put my sub in the listening position and then "crawl for bass", should I move all furniture out of the room or will it matter if the couch is still in the room?

With the exception of your subwoofer, everything else should remain in the same place.

Hi Guys,

I just want to make sure that I'm getting this right. I'm about to calibrate my speakers with RS SPL and I know that I can use the AVR's internal test tone to attain my 75db ref level. My question is for the sub, so its suggested that I use the internal tone for the sub as well? Meaning I'll try to attain 85db while the room is rumbling, is this correct? I don't have a test cd yet that's why I want to make sure. Thanks.

if speakers leveled to 75db, then sub should be around same.
that will still be running the bass a little hot
but bass at 85 is way hot.
remember spl meter is off on the low freq. for corrected measurements it would be closer to around 72db.
if you have test tones on your receiver you shouldnt need a test cd

I've been having trouble finding an answer to perhaps the first question that needs to be asked/answered when considering a sub woofer. Forgive me if this is the ultimate newbie question, but can someone consisely explain the difference between having a sub out versus a sub pre-out on your receiver? Explaining in non-technical terms would be best, as newbies will likely be the only audience for this question. Thanks!

Quick question, i set up my system using my RS spl meter and the receiver's test tones (sr 606), so i have everything set up fine for level calibration.

But Im a bit confused about crossover levels for the various speakers.
I have four Polk R50 towers, on Polk Csi3 center, and one Ed A3-300.
The r50's i have set at 60hz, the center at 80hz, and the a3-300 is where im confused, the knob goes from 50 to 100 hz, but it doesnt have any marks in between. Is there a way to use the SPL meter to set it to the correct setting, or just go with what sounds best. I think I have it right around 60 to 70 hz, but im not sure. The receiver only lets me set it to 80hz, yet i have my towers to 60hz. Is this correct, in adjusting it on the sub?

hi There,

Question for you i am a newbi to all of this especially with subwoofers. My system as follows.

Pioneer Elite SC-05
Monitor Audio RS 8's
Monitor Audio RSLCR (centre channel)
APC Power Condtioner: APC AV Black 1.5kVA H Type Power Conditioner 120V
OPPO DVD Player

All my speakers are bi-wired, now the question is since i have good quality main speakers with good bass even the centre channel has good bass management what would the settings be? The sub woofer that i most likley will be purchasing withing the next 2 weeks will be SVS PB13 ULTRA.

I have read some of the links regarding turning the mains to small and vice versa please help the more i read the more confused i get. One reason i have good speakers so i have no clue what to do :-(

I will be getting rear speakers when i move into a house to make it a 7.1 system. What should i do???

ransac
06-08-09, 01:10 AM
Start with the speakers set to small and an 80Hz crossover. If your speakers will go significantly lower, then try a lower crossover. If the speakers go to the 40s or even 30s, you are still pushing them, so let the sub do what it is designed to do.

Yes.

You want your sub to extend UP past where your drop off is on the fronts..so there is no missing band.
