Hi I am the original owner of a great Sony DVP S7000 DVD player. It was their first reference player in 1997. Well I'm having my first problem after all these years. What I am seeing is a vertical line when playing DVDs. It is always in the same place on the tv screen. When I switch the tv to other inputs the line goes away so it is from the DVD player. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing the problem?
Thanks for any info
Don :)
I solved the problem. It was a loose component video connection at the tv. Works great again. This player has been amazing for the last 10 years! :)

Owned my DVP S7000 since 98. Still working great. Is there a way to modify it to make it play burned media (DVD-R, DVD+R, etc...)?

I too was hoping to find a way to play burnt media with this player and what I discovered was that, you can. IF, and I think only if, you have a player that is dated (on the back of the unit) either March or April 1997. If you take the cover off and look closely in the proper spot, you will see two small, black 'switches' that you can 'throw' in order to defeat 'Macrovision' and 'Region protection'. When I realized I had a player with a March 1997 date, I switched the two switches, plugged her in and crossed my fingers...it WORKS!! The S7000 would read all my DVD+ and DVD D/L media, of which, made up the majority of my DVD movies (I was a NetFlix burn-and-return guy). I was very happy to say the least. So, if you're fortunate to have a player with those dates, or even if have one with a later date, take off the cover and check it out.
Here is the a link that shows where to look and much, much more. Report back!

ps: I just bought another S7000 yesterday for $50 and it had a May 1998 date. To my disappointment, it did not have the coveted switches. But it is one hellava CD player and DVD player!
