Just curious...has anyone ever tried using diffrent wattage lamps? Even if just in a pinch? I have an old (but good) 200 watt shp lamp that would fit my xr-10x, but that calls for a 275 watt. Does anyone know if it'll work, or pop instantly? Or just be dimmer? I'm leery of trying it due to how these HID lamps operate, I don't know if the ballast will compensate and it'll just be dimmer, or if it'd instantly blow the lamp.
Thanks,
Jeff

Bad idea!
The lamps are specifically engineered for a projector , even if the wattage is lower the heat temp maybe different and it could fry the electronics in the unit.

Jeff, it wouldn't fit! If you tried, you could damage your PJ.
As Lou said, each projector lamp is unique and designed to fit that projector only. You cannot substitute lamps (they are not "just bulbs", they are high pressure arc lamps and are contained in a special alignment housing that only fits your projector).
The reason they are expensive is that they represent a significant part of the projector design.

Hello,
Thanks for the replies. Thats exactly what I suspected and was why I was leery to try it, as I didn't want to kill the pj. I wasn't worrying about mounting, I was going to just remount the raw lamp into my housing, I know the 2 modules are totally diffrent but the raw lamps were fairly similar. Not worth killing the pj though, I'd be better off to sell this lamp as used working and put that money towards an xr-10x lamp. I was just mainy curious if anyone had ever tried it, I know they're not like your common 100 watt household lamp. I wish they were, then they woudln't be so da*n expensive.
Thx,
Jeff

Also, if you touch the bare bulb with your fingers, your finger grease will result in catastrophic lamp failure (possible implosion) - you can't clean the lamps completely.
