If you don't want to read my semi-rant, please answer this question
Has anyone with this problem been able to get it rectified? (no matter what brand of TV you have) if so, how?
I picked up one of these bad boys from Amazon for $2900. Anyone who has one will know how huge they are and take a little bit of effort to get upto a 6th floor apartment (there was only one delivery guy)
I originally bought a samsung fpt5084 but returned it due to an ear-splitting buzz coming from the back of the unit. From a poll done on here, it seems that 50% of plasma owners suffer some kind of buzz.
My th-58pz700u has a buzz that can be heard at 10ft away. Panasonic's customer service asked me to hold the phone upto it so they could hear it, of course phones have a very limited frequency range (something like 300 to 3,400Hz) due to the fact that they're not designed to demonstrate the high frequency screeching buzz of my plasma screen TV, they're designed to be optimised for human speech. Even after reeling off the list of things i'd done to try and test why there was a buzz, using a power conditioner (thought it could be dirty power) used diffrerent outlets, shut off the electricity for every other room in the house and unplugged everything. It was still there.
So panasonic are sending out a repair guy, i'm not holding out much hope. He's probably gonna either say that it's within a normal range or that he can fix it... then he'll change some parts and it'll still buzz. I have about 25 days to return it, i'm gonna see what the repair guy says first.
The buzzing seems to be coming from two distinct areas on the back of the TV, where there is a green LED on both sides. My thing is that if I have to convince myself that the buzz is a part of NORMAL plasma operation, then there is definately something wrong. Maybe it could be the outlets in my apartment, I don't know. Hopefully I won't have to return it. Apart from the buzzing, it's a phenomenal TV.
