I got a Z-5500 Sub that has HUGE magnets inside, is it safe to keep the sub 1 feet away from me?

Not sure if this question is not better answered on WebMD.

Edit: This wasn't sarcasm, I really think you would be better served here on that site. I mean that's more of a medical question isn't it?

What about the low-frequency vibrations?

I don't know exactly what you're asking. If the sub is playing at any decent volume, you can be 10 feet away and still feel the "low-frequency vibrations." That's part of the experience! If you've ever been on an airplane taking off, you've felt plenty of vibrations. They shouldn't cause you any harm. Enjoy your sub and put it wherever it sounds best :).

Ummm, you're clearly new to this. I personally have a Z-5500 as well. People have subwoofers with MUCH MUCH bigger magnets (Epik Conquest) and they don't have a problem. The Z-5500's sub isn't capable of producing real low frequency sound. I have a Z-5500 in my tiny bedroom and it can't shake my room. It can only vibrate it at best (near full volume). If you heard of a real sub, you would know how much low frequency they're putting out, to the point it make the house feel like it's ripping apart, and they don't have problems.

You should be fine.

Unless there is a hole in the sub's cabinet...then you're in trouble.

Sorry. Couldn't resist....

Depends, do you eat Iron Enriched bread? This could be a problem because a lot of bread is iron fortified now a days.

I'll tell you, I've gotten headaches from loud sub volumes.

At a one foor distance, it is not safe at all unless you use protection. OSHA has magnetic safety standards that must be met. Lack of magnetic field protection can have serious results.

The following protection is recommended by OSHA, MagneticSafety.org, and other proprietary IrritateGuy safety standards.

You'll be fine as long as you keep your magnetic balls away from it.

As long as you keep your pet whales away while listening, no problems.

I just came over from reading his other thread on the hole in his Z 5500...

That was mildly amusing...

Then I come here, read this, about to go to bed - and come across that.

For some reason I laughed pretty hard and I never laugh at anything on AVS, or any other forum.

Greatness. Cheers to you, sir.

Around here the only safety sign that is needed regarding subs is:Use caution when lifting!

Depends on what you have in your pockets.

Nah, if your referencing the Logitech Z-5500, that's what I'd call entry level magnets...The PB13-Ultra's magnet would eat those for a snack...

z-5500 sub is very dangerous. Prolonged exposure to the boomy one note bass will severely damage your musical taste.

Is this one of these "Will my sub affect my pacemaker" sort of questions?

I think the subsonic qualities may actually reduce kidney stone problems so you have that going for you. Good luck with all that.

There is worse the Z-5300...with the patented BAND PASS !!! Only one note comes out BOOOUM and BOOOUM ...it never stops !

yes if the subwoofer has a port (hole), otherwise if its sealed, you should be ok because you're protected from its magnet rays. Does the z-5500 have a hole?

The old 560 and 580 were the worst imo. 5300 is just garbage all around but at least it can be had for uber cheap.

The bass sounds terrible, but at least the speakers sound pretty good for computer speakers.
