View Full Version : Danlet DTS-20 vs. Pair A7-450s or Epik Conquests

Has anyone that has or has had a Danley DTS-20 and one or more of the 18" driver eD or the Conquest venture a guess on the comparative performance of the Danley vs a pair of the A7-450s or Conquests, price not being a factor.

I am intrigued by the Danley DTS-20, maybe with a few thousand watts pushing it. It is a huge sub, but since it is only really large in one direction, I could maybe find a place for it without it looking absurd.

I have the utmost respect for the design and quality of components that go into its tapped horn configuration, but I wonder whether the Danley could really equal the large drivers in a pair of Conquests or A7-450s.

Any thoughts?

There is a forum member who has owned the conquest, a7-900, and the danley dts-20, as well as the klipsch Thx Ultra 2 subs. He started the elemental designs thread. PM rmlowz and he could give you his thoughts.

Thanks - yes, rmlowz - I should have remembered him.

The DTS-20 is probably the best sounding sub I've ever heard to date. The ED subs are excellent, haven't heard the Conquest. The DTS-20 doesn't get as deep as some subs (16 hz is about the limit) but it has boatloads of output and the sound quality at all frequencies is simply stunning. Power wise, you want to limit it to not much over a Kilowatt (it benefits from top quality power, but not necessarily more power above that). I have the worlds first JTR Captivator on the way to do a comparison (another Uber sub and a RIDICULOUS buy at $1895). It is NOT a mini sub so those looking for tiny little girly-man boxes (you know...like those tiny little ED A7-450 mini subs) need not apply. 40" high x 31.5" w x 24" d. It may be the first sub that can give the DTS-20 a run for the money and will outdo it for extension and output down low (12hz is where it starts to roll off).

Website says its 31.5 in high and 40 in wide. I think you are right though from the pic.

Does he have a special amp to use with it?

Is that an 18 inch driver?

Looks like its made to work with the Growler, with an upper FR of 70.

Whats the alignment on that ? The website is pretty sparse on info. I do like their products. Really like to hear the Trip 8s

The trip 8's are awesome. You need to try them. I am awaiting soundood's comparison with the dts-20 and the captivator. I have been told the same thing about the dts-20, not quite as powerful as the A7-900(very close) but the dts-20 has better sound quality.

a7-900 is still bigger :p

CADOBHuK,

That is true, but the captivator does not have dual 18's. So he compared to the A7-450. To the OP and his question, I think dual conquest or dual A7-450's will have greater output across the board but the danley will still sound better(from other sources). I am currently building 3 giant sonosubs using the ED driver. One of them will make the A7-900 look small. This should get me close to 2 A7-900 subs(minus 2-3 db's). If I used a more powerful amp they would have more output than 2 A7-900's.

That sounds very interesting, MKtheater. I'm sure you won't leave us without pictures and all. But if you wanna compare things, put it up against 100000watt's towers. If you can beat him you're the new champ.

I am not trying to beat anyone, I do have a medium sized room, 2300 cubic feet. I am trying to get 125 db's from 12hz-80hz in room. With my previous subs I was at 125 db's from 25-80hz. I just wanted deeper extension. As soon as I get building them I will post pics. I have a broken ankle right now and it is slowing me down.
