Hey guys Im looking for some recomendations......I'm looking for a good upconverting dvd player. I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times before but I'm gonna ask it again because I want a little more specific guidance for my particular setup. I'm currently using a cheapo RCA upconverting dvd player hooked up hdmi that I bought from Walmart. I'm using a Mitsubishi HC1500 projector and my screen is 104 inches. I'm actually quite happy with my picture quality (I just love my HC1500!!!!) but I think it can be better. My biggest complaint with the RCA is that when I skip forward sometimes the audio gets all out of sync and other times it freezes up completely........I'll be needing to upconvert to 720p/1080i over hdmi. Im looking to spend about 150-200 bucks.....Ive done alot of reading but there are just so many choices and variables I would like some opinions on which DVD player to go with...I'm staying away from bluray right now until the price comes down. I currently run my hd content from my PC.....
Oh and one other question; about how much difference in quality do you think I'll be able to see between the RCA and a 200 dollar player??? Thanks for your time in advance guys......

The best upconverting player I've seen is (believe it or not) the Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player. and since HD-DVD lost the format war you can find them for around 70 dollars now.

Any ideas on an upconvert dvd player that will also play DivX?

The Oppos all do. Isn't that a common feature these days?

I can't compare the RCA to any players, but I would highly recommend the Oppo DV-980H. I love watching SD DVD via HDMI connection on the Oppo to a Sony 46W3000 display. Retails for around $169...

I'm a big fan of the pioneer dv-400v you can get it for around 100 dollars and it will far outperform its "pay grade." It upconverts DivX and has very good picture quality and has extensive calibration options ie: contrast, sharpness, hue, and brightness. The audio dac impressed me too, it says 24bit/96khz and yet when watching the the title for Across The Universe my yamaha rxv1800 displayed 24 bit/192khz always gotta love when stuff under promises and over delivers. I've heard of Denon's and the faroudja chip being very good but the ones I have seen were very dissappointing, unstable, and totally un-customizeable. People love the oppos but I have yet to see one, I'm sure they're great. The thing you gotta love about the oppo is it's also a great DVDA/SACD player where as the pioneer is a good cd player and DVD player.

i have both a2 and a30. a30 smokes the a2 for upscaling. if u can find one, they're pretty cheap, now.
