I have had the LG DR1F9H for about a year and a half and it's worked well (other than the CPRM, which I just learned how to disable), but I do have a question:
The unit has a built-in flash reader on the front that reads several different varieties of flash memory cards. I have a Sony DSC-N2 digital camera (10.1MP). I can take pics in 4:3 or 3:2 at 10MP, or it has the option of taking pics at 16:9 "HDTV" (although the res is something like 2MP).
When I take the Memory Stick Pro Duo (put it in to a MS Pro adapter) and insert it in to the DR1F9H, I can display the images fine except that the aspect ratio of the pictures won't match the aspect ratio of my 50" HP 5060N Plasma 1080i TV. If I leave the TV's aspect ratio set at "Auto" then the 4:3 pics are stretched to take up the entire screen. The 3:2 pics have a slight black bar at the top and bottom. Both are however stretched, just like a 4:3 TV program would be. The weird part is that a 16:9 picture is shown with black bars at the top and bottom, as though it's stretched width-wise but not top-to-bottom.
I've tried adjusting the TV's aspect ratio to 16:9, 4:3, Zoom 1, and Zoom 2. 4:3 shows the pictures properly, but the 16:9 pic is shown in a 4:3 frame with bars on the top and bottom. Zoom2 shows them stretched properly and takes up the whole screen, but the top and bottom of the pics are cut off significantly. I also tried adjusting the "TV Aspect Ratio" setting in the player's Setup menu, but similar issues occur.
Obviously I understand that a 4:3 is either going to be stretched, cut off, or have bars on the side, but shouldn't a picture that was taken natively at 16:9 and is stored in a resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio be displayed on the entire screen, without stretching, bars, or being cut-off?
I'm assuming that if I wrote the pics to a CD/DVD and displayed them on the DVD player the same thing would happen, though I haven't tried it (I can't imagine that the source, i.e. a disc vs. flash card) would make a difference.
Please Help!!!
