Hi. I am having a issue with my Time Warner Samsung HD box running the Mystro software.

I always keep my cable box powered on. The other day I realized it was off and that usually means that TW did an update to the box. When it started up I noticed that the video on SD channels had black bars on each side of the picture, as if the view mode was set to "Normal", even though the setting was on "Full"." I assumed it was the TV (Sony Bravia) so I tried changing the view settings to Zoom, Stretch, etc., but the picture still had the black bars on the sides. I than tried changing the setting on my cable box, but again no go.

The funny thing HD content, menus and banners take up the full screen. It is just standard SD stuff. After all this happened I turned the same box on in my bedroom and I am having the same issue. I called TW and they had no idea of the issue. The only thing the CRS told me to do was to reboot the box, which I already did a couple of times.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same issue?

The problem is that you are connected to a totally digital system and your HDMI connection to the TV is set by the digital signal from your provider. With HDMI, it is totally out of your control.

I am OK if someone wants to show that my view is incorrect, but now that Comcast is only digital in many areas, Comcast sets the screen mode with an HDMI connection.

I am having the same problem....I have a SA8300HD box connected to Sony KDF-e50A10...

Setup:

-Cable box to TV with either hdmi or component (I tried both)
-480i 4:3 image coming into TV
-TV set to "normal" zoom mode (aka no zoom)
-Cable box set to "16:9 TV" and "4:3 Side Bars" (aka no zoom)
-Cable box aspect ratio set to "normal" (aka no zoom)

Result:

4:3 SD image (looks squished) with a gray bar on each side and a black bar on each side...or looking from left to right...

<black bar><gray bar><4:3 image><gray bar><black bar>

I have called Time Warner 4 times. They said they had a problem a few days ago (4/16) with HD looking like 4:3, apparently the fix screwed up SD channels. They want to send a tech out, but I know that won't help (and they will probably tell me to use the zoom button or something, which really gets me PO'd!)

I thought maybe it was the TV, so I tried a 4:3 DVD source and had no problems, it worked correctly...so it is definitly Time Warner. I thought maybe it was the cable box and I was going to swap it out tommorrow, but apparently that is not the problem either. Hopefully if enough people complain they will take care of it.
