View Full Version : Pioneer 400 V vs. New 410V Differences?
What are the NEW DIFFERENCES between the current Pioneer 400V and the new Pioneer 410V which is due in June '08. I only plan to run regular DVDs and NOT use the many "D+++" etc., etc. formats than the players COULD run. Just your plain vanilla DVD player with the biggest bang for the buck.
So, in my situation tell me what the new 410V will do that the 400V currently doesn't.
blackrain 06-03-08, 09:53 AM I would like to know this as well since the 400V is cheaper than the 410V right now. If there is no difference, I might as well go with the 400V

blackrain 06-04-08, 10:14 AM Its unfortunately unclear whether the 410V has USB 2.0 transfer speeds. That convenience is now available through Philips. If the 410V had USB 2.0 transfer speeds, I would probably get it today. Hopefully the next Pioneer model will have USB 2.0 transfer speeds so that I can enjoy the better PQ with USB 2.0. Until then, I am probably going to go with Philips.
I wrote an email to Pioneer about the USB version on the 410V and I just got an email from them and they said that the DV-410V has USB 2.0.
I dont remember seeing the 400 in person but I did see the 410V and I have to see it seems like a solid player. Also seems to be more feature filled for its price point then other under $100 upconverting players. I am still not sure which player to get myself. The Philips 5990 is probably the cheapest player in terms of price between it, the 410V, the Panasonic S54K and Sony 700.

I tried out the Philips DVP5990, the Sony DVP-NS700H and the Pioneer DV-410V. The DV-410V has the best picture quality and best build quality when I compare it to the 5990 and NS700H.

If you are planning to display photos from USB drive with the philips, I found the quality unacceptable. Here is a link to my review in the philips thread:

I plan to return it and try the Pioneer 400/410V.

Thats reassuring to know. The build quality did seem very good for a player in that price segment, I also like how it has alot of individual buttons on the face of the player which you just dont see much in this price segment.
I might go ahead and get this and not look back with any regrets, at least I am crossing my fingers that it will turn out that way. I have never really been a big fan of Philips electronics in general, I did like the Panasonic S54K, and the NS700H has gotten above average reviews but I did like the DV-410V a bit more.

I think that's marketing language for "USB 2.0 compliant". I haven't seen anyone confirm USB 2.0 transfer speeds and the 400 has been out for a while now.

mikeeve 06-07-08, 03:19 PM Thanks for the promotion code. Your link did not work for me, but the promotion code did after I went directly to the Pioneer store:

I bought the 410 yesterday from Best Buy paying full price at about the same time you were posting your message. Even at full price, I love this player. Great PQ (better than the Philips 5992 I returned), good photo handling via the USB port (good detail, maintains aspect ratio). Perhaps I can get Best Buy to match the price.
The 410 box says USB 2.0 support, but I can't verify the speed.
I returned the Philips 5992 because USB photos lacked detail and the aspect ratio was severely distored (1.33 photos stretched to 1.45).
PowerPC 06-07-08, 10:32 PM Awesome. Thank you. :D
I had a 400 a month ago but wasn't too impressed with it. Sounds like the 410 offers what I felt was lacking.

Wow thanks for the promo code. That makes this best deal on an upverting DVD player. I ordered one today.

You sure? I went by BB today to look at the box and couldn't find any mention of USB 2.0. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.
Maybe there's different packaging... Got a pic?
Hi,
I read on some other forum that Philips DVP5992/5990 does not support DTS decoding. However the Pioneer 410V supports 2 Channel decoding. Does that mean it supports 2.1 instead of 5.1 channels?
Also does 410 allow scanning through an External HDD connected through USB to pick the movie you want to play? How does it work if that movie is split in to multiple files? Can we point it to a directory and it will pick them in certain order?
Thanks
Ik

I think he saw the DTS 2.0 channel decoding label on it.

The 410v has the 2 channel DTS decoder internally, but you can bypass it you bitstream the dts signal to your receiver in order to get 5.1 channel.
I am a newbie to the AV setups so forgive me if i sound naive and ask stupid questions.
1) How can i bitstream the DTS signal directly to the receiver?
2) If the DVD Player only has 2 Channel DTS decoder, can it still bitstream a 5.1 signal to a receiver?
3) Does this player has HDMI1.3? I do not see much info on that else where.
Thanks in Advance
IK.
PowerPC 06-10-08, 01:08 AM I hadn't thought there was much of a cosmetic difference between the 400 and 410, but looking at the high-res shots of each from Pioneer, there are definitely a number of subtle changes to the face of the machine.
I sized and mashed them together for comparison; (Click for full size)

Aside from the change in sheen level for the new player, the face isn't covered in logos like the 400 was. The USB port, eject, and DVD/USB buttons have all been moved around, and the buttons for navigation and eject are now rectangular.
Gents,
I just bought the 410.
I have the digital audio connected to an old Pioneer 1014 AVR.
The default for '96khz pcm out' is set at '96khz--48khz'
Should I change this to only 96khz?
Any info is appreciated...

Oops! Forgot to subscribe to this thread. Double-checked my 410 box. Looks like the USB 2.0 must have faded completely off my box since it's not there anymore! :o
May have been on the shelf label at the store. I'm going back tonight to try to get BB to match online price (will probably fail), and I'll double check the shelf and take my camera.
Even if it does say USB 2.0, that doesn't ensure hi-speed USB (thank the USB naming committee for that fiasco).
mikeeve 06-11-08, 11:36 AM Here is the shelf tag, note says USB 2.0 Port.

Thanks a bunch 650guy! Ordered mine yesterday, and its already shipped. With the discount and free shipping, this is a really good price for a highly rated upconverting player.
jsc0787 06-12-08, 10:22 PM Anyone else had problems with Pioneers site for buying the 410?
the only problem I had is .. I ordered on sunday afternoon.. thought about decided to cancel sunday night, but it was too late.. already in the warehouse awaiting shipping monday morning. Other than that purchasing was smooth.
I bought the DV-410 almost two weeks ago with the 12% off coupon and today I tried to get Best Buy to price match Pioneer's price with the 30% off coupon, but they would not honor the price. Oh well, I'm glad that I did not pay full mrsp for my DV-410.

For those of you who have the 410 has anyone tried playing a divix file on the USB? Does it transfer at the full USB2.0 rate or is it still slow? I've received mine from Pioneer a week ago but I'm out of the country on business and haven't opened the box yet and can't for another week :(.
PowerPC 06-15-08, 01:38 AM It's definitely USB 1.
Loading a 500MB~ AVI file takes a good couple of seconds and loading a 2.5GB AVI takes forever and a half.

I have a 900MB avi file on my usb flash drive and it takes about 3 seconds to load it on my dv-410v. I think that the dv-410 has USB 2.0.

Hmmm... I did have to convert my larger AVI files. But my 500MB files are pretty plane jane.
I wish there was a way to confirm once and for all which USB this player is equipped with.

There's apparently an easy way to make it region free if you flash with the hacked firmware; Hold down Enter until the player shuts off.
I've done it but haven't yet tried an R2 disc yet.

Where I can get that hacked firmware please?
I called Pioneer again about the USB version on the dv-410 and asked for techincal support and they said that its USB 2.0.
