View Full Version : Can you point me to the right Canare BNC Terminator
scottatl 03-08-08, 04:43 PM My cable run is a Canare that terminates with BNC on one side and HD15 on the other. I want to chop off the HD15 and put on some BNC terminators.
I would like to stick with Canare, but any good 75 ohm will do.
seems to be a lot of different plugs out there
Thanks in advance.
Here are the choices I am looking at

Sokoloff 03-08-08, 05:15 PM Canare makes a bunch of different cable. You need to match the connector to the cable you've got, but just telling us the brand name isn't enough. It's like asking "which water pump fits my Mercedes?" without telling us which Mercedes you've got.
I used the second one on my Canare cable, but that's also not all that helpful. If you don't know what you've got, look on the jacket and see if it's embossed in it, or worst case, take a pic of the BNC end and measure the OD of the individual coaxes and I'll see if I can match it up to mine.
scottatl 03-08-08, 06:52 PM yep, that makes sense
itis the Canare V5-3CFB
Also, can these connectors be put on without a strip and crimp tool if done carefully with a knife and pliers.
Jesse S 03-08-08, 09:26 PM No they won't crimp properly without the proper die+handles. Solder them if you can't afford or don't want the crimping tools.
lovebohn 03-09-08, 12:04 AM Since you live near Terry I would just send him a PM and see if he can do it for you..... his username is chuckuf.

Terry made the cables (actually his son did) But if I stick to my usual pattern I like to try it myself first and then call Terry after I mess it up.
Just need to find the right terminator.
Chuchuf 03-09-08, 10:17 AM The Canare bnc terminators we use require a tool to crip on that I'd doubt you could so otherwise.

jkruger 03-09-08, 10:52 AM Save yourself a lot of work and buy a short hd-15/5bnc breakout cable. Then if you need to go back to the hd-15 its already there.
lovebohn 03-09-08, 10:53 AM This is the BNC you will need BCP-C3F, http://www.canare.com/index.cfm?objectid=7222AEAE-3048-7098-AF30E16BAE049F58
Like Terry said without the right die and crimp tool your going to be SOL. The only other solution might be to try and find a BNC compression connector.
jkruger 03-09-08, 12:13 PM The breakout cable from Monoprice is under $10.00, hooks ya right up.
Do a search on their website for vga-bnc cable.
Fellenz 03-09-08, 12:29 PM I don't think he needs a VGA-BNC cable, it sounds like that is what he already has and is looking to make it into a BNC-BNC cable.
jkruger 03-09-08, 12:32 PM I was suggesting that instead of rewiring the one he has, he could buy an adapter from monoprice that would hook right up and save him time and money. Monoprice items 561 or 563, depending on whether he wants male or female. $6.20 plus shipping.
Fellenz 03-09-08, 12:37 PM Smart, I wasn't thinking of using it that way
scottatl 03-09-08, 04:27 PM I had a break out cable already, just needed a gender changer that I picked up today. I will hold off on the BNC terminator until I need to have Terry back.
Thanks for the help guys
jkruger 03-09-08, 05:09 PM When I built my own cable I found that my crimper did not have the correct size for the bnc connectors that fit my cable. (Belden YR47033) I used some stiff plastic wrapped around the connector to make it tight in the crimper and it worked really well. (just a mcgyver fyi)
