I have a Sony VW 40, I think I am seeing what people have called LCOS Sparkle. I kind of find it distracting, anyone else experience this. Solid light colors seem shimmery and sparkly at times. Very odd.

I've never seen anything on any LCOS display that I would consider to be a "sparkle". Screen artifacts that create sparkles are pretty common though. I have seen rare and very slight shimmers on the RS-1 though which I presume is dithering noise from the digital backplane. This is common in DLP and Plasma too.
On the RS-1 it only happens with certain bit values. If you put up a greyscale ramp test pattern it can be seen with some patterns but only when up close to the screen. It's not noticeable from regular viewing distances.
On the test patterns that I've seen it with all of the pixels with the same value will have the same slight shimmer but the adjacent pixels that have a different value don't have it. It's only in certain ranges and with certain test patterns but I've seen it with different sources.

For a discussion on LCOS "sparkle", see this article:
http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?WO=2003%2F071515&IA=WO2003%2F071515&DISPLAY=DESC
It's the usual, unreadable, scientific gobblygook, but it does describe the sparkle effect.

Wow, now I am even more confused. It does seem to indicate that the "Sparkle" is inherent in LCOS and there is nothing that can be done about it. Oh well, maybe I should go back to good old LCD.
