I'm looking at options to rack my DNII but I'm not certain if the custom shelf Middle Atlantic offers will handle the weight. I was told a 4 point shelf would be a better option. Anyone using the custom shelf? I also have the optional alloy face which also makes me wonder if the cutout was designed for the standard face or the upgraded face plate.

Any answer on this is appreciated :)

Thanks everyone!

If it were me, I'd use a Shelf-5 (I'm assuming this is a Slim-5 rack) and then get a custom face plate cut for the front of the shelf.

A Shelf-5 bolts at each corner into the sides of the rack posts.

Tony:

Here's a link (http://www.middleatlantic.com/rackac/storage/shelves2.htm#3) to the Shelf 5 on Middle Atlantic's website.

The Part # is SH-5A if you want to do some web searches for pricing.

Thanks John. I wanted the SH5A but I don'y have a Slim5. I have an SRS (not the SRSR). I can't understand why I couldn't use it though. The SH5A will work with the SRSR which is also 19" deep. I wonder if anyone has used the SH5A witht the SRS?

You cannot use an SH-5a on an SRS rack with a Dreadnaught amplifier, period.

The rear rails on the SRS only come up a few spaces, and you could never locate the Dreadnaught in the lower part of that rack because the amp is deeper than the rack and would interfere with the cable carriers.

This rack only comes out 19", which isn't even enough to easily access the rear of a basic AV receiver, much less come close to the depth of a beast like the Dreadnaught.

IMO, this was a poor choice of a rack for such a serious collection of audiophile gear...

Also, if they have it listed, they have accounted for the weight in the shelf they include.

I have full access of the SRS from the rear since the unit sits in a closet. There isn't an issue there and I don't have cable carriers so I can use the bottom section of the rack. I do agree that I should have gone with the SLIM5 but I had this rack well before the DNII.

does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for a cabinet for a Dread? I just got one. I knew it was big, but I didn't have a sense of how big until I brought it into my living room. Most cabinets are 19-21 inches deep, I'm figuring I'm going to need 25" at least, to clear the cables in the back. Or I resign myself to having it stick out the back, and take off the back cover.

Please keep Theta's cooling space requirements in mind when mounting in a cabinet or rack. The beast does run on the warm side even when playing at low volume. An open back can help circulation.
