Hi all,

This is my first foray in the FP world. I only have one place in my condo to place a projector, and that is in my living room. The one problem, however, is my ceilings are roughly 11' at the lowest, and I need to mount the projector relatively close to the ceiling because of aesthetic reasons. The throw will be about 13.5' - 14', with seating at around 11-12'. I am not sure how big of a screen I want, but probably around 100" or so. With ceilings around 11', and given the screen size, would flush mounting the projector (or slight drop) be viable? How much of a vertical shift is possible, and how will this affect the picture? I know some of this is projector dependent, but can someone give me a rough idea? Also, ambient lighting can be completely controlled. Thanks!

You'll need a projector with a big offset or lens shift. Depending on price range I'd look at Infocus, Marantz or JVC. On the lower end Panasonic or Optoma. Your screen will still probably be pretty high with 11' ceilings. Is it possible to mount the projector on the back wall of the room so it doesn't have to be so high?

Back wall mounting isn't possible either. The back wall is about 25'+ away, and there is a chandelier blocking the line-of-sight.

Another thought is an in-ceiling lift. Maybe that would work?

Something like the IN82/IN83 is going to be your best bet, it's got a 136% offset, meaning the lens must be 36% of the screen height above the screen. On a 100" screen that means it would be about 18" above the screen.
