I'm planning to buy a new LCD television for wall-mounting in my family room. Fortunately, the wall on which the TV will be mounted is shared with an office room, so I'll be able to put my components (cable box, AVR, DVD player, etc.) directly behind the television (separated by the wall, of course) in the office. I'll then use an IR blaster to control the components from around the corner.
It seems to me that this offers the opportunity to avoid extensively tearing open drywall, and instead just cutting an opening big enough for < 1' length of smurf pipe (or something similar), through which I can fish HDMI, power, etc. The hole on the family room side and the hole on the office side don't need to be pretty, since they'll be concealed by the television and by components respectively.
Does this sound feasible? Am I running any risks by running cables through the wall in this manner? I hesitate slightly about running the power cable this way, so I might have to find an alternative on that front...
Thanks in advance for your advice and thoughts!
