Guys i have a ps3 40gb and my tv is a vizio 42.

I noticed when i go to settings that some option named 24Hz is in the On position. Do I turn it off? I have no idea what that does.

Most (I think) BluRays are native 24fps. The PS3/display will repeat duplicate and triple some frames in order to output 30fps. The multiplied frames can been seen in slow moving shots, but are less noticeable in fast paced, action scenes. Your TV's manual should have its specifications in it.

set it to off - no advantage for your tv.

Yep, I just looked and like Glum said, turn it off as your TV wont do better than the PS3.

film is normally shot at 24fps, tv shows are at 60fps.

All tv's can support 60fps, and they will do a 3:2 pulldown to display a 24fps film on a 60fps display. So if the tv doesn't support 24fps, don't turn it on, your tv won't be able to understand what to do with it.

What the ps3 will do instead is to do the 3:2 pulldown for the tv and output as 60fps.

So what would be ABCD for 24fps, will no be repeated as AA-BBB-CC-DDD, which will fit the 60fps timing. The drawback is that during fast motion you will see some parts of the motion faster than others (often called judder). A prime example is a scrolling text on the bottom like the ESPN "bottom line" (but realize that espn broadcasts in 30/60fps). You will notice the text will not scroll smoothly but will occasionally jump.

So if your a true videophile, making sure your display can do 24fps. Most projectors are typically 24fps compatible.
