Hi,

My projector has failed. It powers up, and will display the test pattern, but will only display a scrambled mess from the composite video input. I have unplugged the connectors from all the boards and plugged them back in, checked for high ESR caps (none found), and can't figure out what to do next. I like this projector, but it is getting pretty old and I imagine a service manual would be rather expensive.

Any ideas? I did note from some of the other GP 3000 posts that these things had a power supply design flaw and that there is a part in the PS that is impossible to get. But if the PS went belly up I shouldn't be able to display the test pattern right? I'm guessing the problem is in the video processing circuits.

Thanks for any help!

Does it display anything from RGBHV?

Yes, the RGBHV input works. I just tested it with this laptop.

I've seen this in other GP 3000s. It's an issue on the video board that I never figured out, I spent a couple of hours on it. The cheapest solution: Go to ebay and buy an entry level line doubler like a DVDO for under $100. It will look better than composite and the problem will be gone. If you're interested in a trip to Vancouver, I have an excellent condition GP 3000 w/setup remote that I'd sell for dirt cheap. Then you'd have 100% backup parts..:D

Thanks for the reply Curt. I'm bummed your hours of troubleshooting didn't get to the bottom of this problem. The line doubler idea sounds like the best work around.

Curt,

There are quite a few different DVDO models on eBay at the moment. Which are the ones I should be looking for?

Well I wouldn't spend too much since the set itself is pretty old. THe V2 or Pro will work fine, or if you want to splurge, get the Ultra.
