Forgive me, I just got it last week.

Anyway, how do you travel from place to place? By foot/horse or just automatically travel thru the map? Cuz it really is a time saver if you do so... is there a big advantage travelling manually? Like finding a hidden cave with a godly armor?

THANKS!

You got it pretty much right on the nail.... If you want to explore Cyrodill you might want to travel manually, but if you are in a hurry to do a mission and hate traveling, then the automatic traveling system is a plus. Like going to do this and this at this place...

Take your time. Walk. Oblivion is worth every minute you put into it. When it came out people claimed you should walk just to see the fantastic graphics/landscapes, but that talk has faded a bit. The game is so good you want to see everything....reallly...

I ride the horse most of the time...but I walk once I find a new cave. Good game that I need to get back into my rotation.

That is why at level 15 I am 150 hours into it ;):D

Love the whole game, know it by heart!

Back when I played it, I walked to the destination the first time I went there, then used fast travel for any other time I needed to go to the same place.

remember, when you walk everywhere, you more likely to have more fights, and level up faster because of it. I don't remember or not if your athletic skills improve at all if you auto travel everywhere?

Walk everywhere. It is the only way to uncover all the areas and find caves and quests, etc.

I did a mix. If I was going to a new area, obviously I had to walk/ride. I also tended to hoof it if the distance wasn't far or it made plot sense. But for knocking out those Fedex quests I just auto-travelled. Also did that if I found my level unlocked random monsters that I couldn't easily handle or if I was weighed down with loot I needed to sell off first.

One problem I have run into exploring on horseback is that if I have a monster encounter and hop off my horse to fight, often the monsters attack the horse. The problem there is that the horse will usually run away and at my current level (7) the monsters will often be faster than I am which means that I get stuck in the middle of wherever with no horse.

=)

Anyone know if there is a way to either tell your horse to stay put or to call it?

Cheers

Did you get the horse armor? That should help your horse in fights. Also, have you gotten Shadowmere yet? Thats one Horse that don't put up with no bull.

As far as walking, I would say if you destination is 1/4 of the map of closer, go ahead and walk, if its farther then fast travel to the nearest place and walk in from there. This will give you a good mix of getting some Athletics and Acrobatics training, as well as being able to complete some missions quickly for money/items, etc.
