First off forgive me because I am past the frustration point:mad:

I connected my sons psp to my ps3 and downloaded some games and demos for him, fairly painless procedure only to find that now I need to update his psp from 3.6 to 3.8....why can this not be done via the ps store? I thought I could d/l it to the ps3 and transfer it to his psp? any help here on how I can get his psp updated so he can play the stuff i d/l for him...

I also cant seem to get his psp online via the ps3, I am NOT running wifi so I'm lost......

You should be able to download the update file to your PC then transfer it to a memory stick, then manually update the PSP via memory stick. The file should be available on the Sony playstation site.

1) PSP firmware updates and instructions are available here (http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP/About/SystemUpdate/pc.html). If you don't have a WiFi connection available to your PSP, you have to update with the PC (w/ a Memory Stick for storage).

2) You're not getting your PSP online through the PS3. There is no internet connection sharing functionality. Remote Play will let you connect to your PS3 from your PSP remotely, though. But that just gives you access to content and (some) programs on your PS3.

3) To save yourself some frustration in the future, check out the PSP (http://www.us.playstation.com/support/psp) and PS3 (http://www.us.playstation.com/support/ps3) support sites to see if what you're trying to do is even supported (PSP Internet Connection Support) (http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/PSP/ConnectingToInternet/default.html).

Spend $40 on a wireless router and they won't be.

You do realize that the PSP was out 2 years before the PS3, and you are asking the PSP update via the PS3 when it was NEVER designed to do that. For the two years prior to the PS3 the PSP had three ways to update software. Wifi, PC, or UMD (comes with a game) The PSP is touted as being a wireless device. Hence no Cat 5 so your not wanting to go wireless kind of limits you and the things your PSP can do.
