so heres the deal. I want to set up a audio system at home - for mainly music listening. I dont care much about home theater cuz i mainly use my headphones + laptop for movies.
my room not very big, and my budget is around $700. i dont really know what brand/model of speakers are nice. and which kind of receiver i need or amp if its called that.
im looking for bookshelf speakers that are great for music. so please offer me insight :D

i prefer mirage or polk audio for the price,in fact im using mirage in a 15x15 room and love the sound

Does the $700 include the receiver? Do you want a sub, or just two bookself speakers?

One suggestion that I like:
Monitor audio bronze br2's, they retail at $400/pair. They supply good bass for the money and a great midrange/detailed high's. They are also easy to drive. I would consider something like a denon DRA297 as a good mid price stereo receiver to power them ($300 msrp). With a bit of a discount and some cables etc, you should stay at your $700 discount (don't spend much on wires, just get something that isn't total crap).

Here's the best sound you can ever get for $700 by far:

the slit paper woofers from scanspeak are the true high end
here's the product page:

Depends on which model you are looking at. Their lower models are the Monitor and R Series. Their higher end are the RTi and LSi. With your budget, it seems like you will be hitting the lower end. For its price, it is a great bang for the buck. Polks seems to go on sale at half price a lot at frys and frys.com.
Take a look at the BICs as well with your budget. Is your $700 budget all for speakers only? If you can add a little more to your budget, keep an eye on the svs or av123's x-series.
