View Full Version : optoma hd65 and 16:9 prob
fdijoid 03-09-08, 09:05 PM what am i doing wrong, i cant seem to fill my screen up, my screen is 54x96 correct me if im wrong but that is 16:9. i can get the hieght right but it always falls short on the width, does anyone have any clue as to what going on here
Press the 16:9 button on the remote control.
And on the DVD Player, choose widescreen.
Peter.
fdijoid 03-09-08, 09:24 PM it is that was the first thing i checked, im using my hd dvr dtv not a dvd player at this time
fdijoid 03-09-08, 09:41 PM ok well it seems like i might be able to get it when i turn superwide on, this doesnt seem to be the correct way to do this tho or is it?
guitarman 03-09-08, 10:31 PM Set the DVR to 16.9 720p, try native aspect and 16.9 on the HD65. You shouldn't have to use superwide.
fdijoid 03-09-08, 10:44 PM ya i realized that when in superwide i actually cropped some of the picture, i tried 720p it didnt change the size a bit, it actually made the picture worse this unit seems to upscale pretty damn good, right now ive got the hieght pretty close to perfect and the width im missing by 2inches on each side.
guitarman 03-10-08, 12:17 AM Did you try native vs 16.9 on the PJ? Try 1080i on the DVR.
fdijoid 03-10-08, 06:22 PM ive tried all combinations possible, the only thing i can think of is 54x96 isnt a true 16.9 or this unit isnt producing a true 16.9 image. i guess i can trim my screen down to make it fit, id rather not tho
shivaji 03-10-08, 08:49 PM What happens when you zoom it out further.
fdijoid 03-10-08, 08:58 PM im zoomed all the way out right now, whether i zoom in or out it keeps the same ratio like it should, there isnt just a horizontal adjustment on the lens that im aware of.
shivaji 03-10-08, 09:02 PM No there isn't. If it is zoomed all the way out, you have to move the PJ further back to fill your screen. Do have it mounted? How is your screen mounted?
fdijoid 03-10-08, 09:10 PM i can fill top to bottom no problem, im lacking 2inchs on each side, if i move it back further then it wll over sized vertically, i just double checked my screen and its right on the money at 54x96, if it was 54x92 it would be perfect but thats not a true 16.9
shivaji 03-10-08, 09:25 PM Ah, I see the problem. My screen is 52x92, which is a 106" diagonal. That is a true 16x9 ratio and my screen is filled. Your 54x96 is not, as you have said. I can think of a couple of things. Return the screen and get a 106" diagonal wide screen. Or get some velvet or velveteen and make some 2" borders to mask each side. That is a cheap fix, if it is a fixed screen. Of course, that might not work if you roll it up. I have also heard of some people painting black borders on the screen. Don't know how that would work.
guitarman 03-10-08, 10:29 PM Good catch, his H & V numbers don't match 16.9.
96 ÷ 16 = 6
6 x 9 = 54
Peter
Patchen 03-11-08, 01:32 PM yeah 54x96 is a 16x9 dimension. I had no problems with the dimensions thrown by my hd65. The only other thing I can think of (if it's not your format settings, and 2 inches per side doesn't sound like it is) is to make sure your pj is mounted level and that your screen is vertical.
