I have had an hd70 for a few months. I have had a HD player for a few months and I purchased a PS3 as a standalone blueray player this past week and watched one movie on it so far. I currently have the HD player hooked up via hdmi and PS3 via component. Okay so the scene is set......
tonight when I went to watch another blueray movie all I got was a black screen and the sound. So I thought it might be the PS3 so I turned on the HD player and it worked fine. So I switched the HD player over to the component cables and again got no picture. I also tried different component cables to rule out a bad pair and got the same result. I switched back to the PS3 with components and got no picture again. As I played with all the different options I eventually found out that I can only get 480p movies to play over component anything more just gives me a black screen. I put numerous SD dvd's in the blueray player and they all play but the second I put in a BD dvd I get a black screen again.

Are my component inputs screwed up or fried? Or am I missing some obvious setting or something. I am not sure if it is the PS3 or the HD70 giving me troubles.......

If HD DVD player is a toshiba you need to have a hdmi cable to upconvert a sd otherwise it only will pay 480.

Did you go into settings on ps3 and tell it to output thru component

I don't think I explained it clearly enough...Any signal sent to the optoma hd70 (via component inputs) that is greater than 480p results in a black screen. And that is regardless of source (either PS3 or hd player). Any sd dvd I play gives a normal picture over component inputs and I can still play both hd dvd and bd dvd's through the hdmi inputs.
The strange thing is that I watched a bluray dvd via components friday night but Sunday when I went to watch one I got a black screen.... its like something fried or took away the components ability to recieve any signal bigger than 480. Now this wouldn't be a problem since I could still use hdmi but having two high def players I wanted to use component for one and hdmi for the other so I wouldn't need a switching device.
Hopefully this makes more sense now........ has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions? I would hate to have to sent the projector in because it would probably take weeks to get it back.
