Hi All,
I am going to put up acoustic panels in my family room. I saw the ATS acoustic website and have them on the top of my list. My only concern is they use burlap fabric. When i think of burlap i think of a sack of potatoes. For those that own their product perhaps you can chime in.
Do they have a ruff feel?
Are the weaves pretty tight?
Do they smell? (i'm being serious)
Thanks!

Hi There,
I used burlap, or sacking as it is called 'downunder' to cover some absorbtion panels I made.
Based upon the burlap we get in NZ (Not sure if all burlaps are created equal),
Rough = yes it has a weave that is fairly rough to the touch.
Tight Weave = Not particularly, passed the 'Blow' test. I had to paint my pine frames to stop the 'white' colour showing through.
Smell = Ahh yes it sure does. For me a major downside, but you may like the barn-yard type smell. Very rustic.
Regards

I purchased my material from Joann's fabrics here in the states. It is all of the above but I could only mildly smell a straw odor at first that went away. Go to a fabric shop and take a look at it. It has to have a wide weave to allow the sound waves to enter it. Johnathan
Does it have that immediate smell when you enter the room or do you have to put your face up to it?
Wonder if ATS uses the same kind of burlap as Joann. Any ATS owners out there?

You have to put your face to it. Johnathan
Those ATS Acoustic prices are hard to pass up. It would cost me the same if not more if i did it myself. I guess I will order some and let you all know :P
