Hopefully I explain this well enough and somebody has a suggestion or two.

We decided to hook our PS3 to our larger, non-1080p set because the smaller set just wasn't cutting it - even at 1080p.
So I have it hooked up via component cable to our 1080i Toshiba and games look fantastic. Blu-Ray movies also look fantastic, but for whatever reason there is a thin, visible purple line - followed by a slightly darker bar measuring about 6 inches wide - followed by a thin, visible green line. The thing scrolls slowly up and down the screen.
The thing also shows up now when we turn on the XBox 360 - it was never there before. When I disconnect the PS3, the band goes away. I've tested it while connected through our A/V receiver, through a Key Digital component switch and connected directly to the TV and the band remains.

Anybody have an idea what could be causing it and what I should do? Is there a PS3 setting I should tweak when using component cables? It's really annoying and I don't want to move it back to the smaller set. Thanks in advance.

I had something similar & it was caused by some sort of ground loop. The PS3 electrical plug is three prong. Try using one of the adapters that turns the three prong plug into a two prong plug. It worked for me.

The rolling band of color is caused by interference from your AC power called a "ground loop."

Do a search - there is a TON of information out there.

Next time I'm in Wisconsin, all you can eat dinner and drinks are on me!
That completely cleared everything up. And to think, I had budgeted several hours today for a complete rewiring of everything in the A/V rack.
Thanks so much. :)

I hadn't run into the problem in the last few years. I had one a while ago with the cable box, but I put some sort of adapter on the cable line and that cleared it up. Never thought of a two-prong adpater solution. Odd thing is though, all my electronics run through a voltage regulator (we get A LOT of spikes here) so I would never have thought it was AC related.

I had the same issue and hooking EVERYTHING into a good serge protector solved the problem.

Just happy to be of some help. If you know how much we can eat and DRINK in Wisconsin, that's quite an offer. :D
