Please help me...i dont know what im doing.
i just got a Sony DAV-DZ850KW HTiB. (I know...i was going to get the receiver but this was a fourth of the cost with the sale)
so...i connect a toslink miniplug adaptor, and an optical cable to my imac (intel core duo 20"). I plugged the other end into the sony receiver into optical digital in.
i connected my tv (which has all other inputs like PS3, Wii, etc) to the receiver using a coaxial digital audio cable.
when i test the speakers using a dvd it works fine...but when i try to play from my mac...i get no sound.
my imac shows digital audio output, but no sound is coming into the speakers.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
this is my first time..so maybe i dont know what im doing.
Make sure your receiver is set to the correct input. Does your receiver have programmable inputs? Go into its onscreen display (OSD) to see how the inputs are set up. If you are using optical 1 for the iMac (for example), make sure the input you have selected in the receiver has optical 1 configured as its audio source.

Make sure you check Sound in Preferences on the Mac. You should see it in the hardware set when you open Preferences. Often, the Mac will be configured by default for internal speakers and you have to shift to the output you prefer. Once you do, you should be all set. Don't forget to adjust the volume. Start out low then slowly raise the volume, just in case. Hope this helps.

And if those suggestions don't get you going, you might want to read the thread about issues with the toslink output of the iMac. (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=970407)

i got it working....found the problem.
it seems that if i have both digital audio plugs plugged into the receiver, then it gets confused and wont play any audio. so i need to unplug my imac to hear sound from the TV stuff.....or unplug the TV to hear the imac stuff.
is there a optical to coaxial converter? my imac has the optical out, but my tv has only coaxial in/out. id like to set it up so i dont have to fuddle with the crds all the time, so if i just put the imac audio straight to TV, and then outut everything from tv to receiver it should be ok.
any ideas on this adpator?
