I have searched many times, but couldn't find the answer through all the threads.

Content aside, which HD DVR is better, Dish or DirectTV. Currently I have TWC and I am used to using their DVR.

I've been doing the exact same research. I've read many threads over at DBSTalk about folks changing from one or the other, and most prefer the operation of the Dish DVR.

DISH dvrs are the best out there . You can record upto 3 things at one time ; 1 ota and 2 sat. THe guides are lightening fast and you can use your recorder to view ota stations and sub channels in your area. The Directv Hr 21 doesnot have ota support yet. The guide is slow and the operation of the remote is clunky. It often takes a couple of seconds for the remote to catch up on the action wanted once you push the button. THat being said DIRECTV does have more hd content than DISH. THey also have an excellent video on demand over the internet. They load quickly and many of the shows are free. DISH online videos over the internet are slow to load , often 20 years out of date and too expensive. Range of 2.99 -4.99 . IF you want the most hd out there for this year and possibly next year , I would recommend DIRECTV for now. DISH will catch up but not till next year considering they will have 100 national hd channels by years end and Directv is promising 150 by this years end. But if the best dvr on the market is all you are looking for ,then DISH dvrs rule . I have had DISH for over 11 years with a 722 and two 622 dvrs on my account and DIRECTV hd dvr for about 2 months with an hr 21 dvr . I have both services and use DISH for just the hd pack + locals for 34.99 a month and directv plus hd dvr and a sd dvr + total choice extra +hd access +locals+ hbo/showtime/starz for about 116.00 a month.

I went through this choice last fall. I chose Dish due to the superior HD DVR. I got a 722, and have been very happy for about 7 months. I wouldn't mind a few of the additional HD channels DirecTV has, but it wasn't worth dealing with a inferior DVR, and Dish will catch up in HD content in a few months. Either way, Dish has more HD than TimeWarner, so I definitely upgraded there.
