Everyone seems to always hesitate on pulling the trigger as they always want "reassurance" from the experts before doing so; I am going to be no different. Currently I have an Optoma H31 and I would like to upgrade to a 720p DLP. Some of the projectors that I am looking at right now are the Optoma HD65, Mitsu HC1500 and the Optoma HD70. I have heard pretty good things about all three of these projectors but which one of these would be the most flexible in regards to placement options? Are there any projectors that I am missing that should be included? Your opinions are appreciated.

you could go slightly cheaper with mitsubushi hc1100, very good pic, only slightly better than hd70, but worth it.

The HC1100 is actually better than the HC1500 in terms of contrast, but is less bright. The 1500 has a white segment in the wheel that makes it brighter, but lowers contrast. Also, I don't think the 1100 is available in the US. Perhaps you meant the HD1000?
As to the original question all of these have a fixed 30-35% offset so none of them are flexible in placement. The HD70 and HC1500 1.2x zoom lenses and the HD65 has a 1.1x zoom lens.

Hmm... Well without starting another "DLP vs LCD" debate let me ask you guys this. DLP projectors are all I know and have seen so if I make the switch to an LCD am I entering into a whole new world? I realize that contrast levels tend to be higher and SDE more noticeable but is there anything else that I should concern myself with when I go and try to demo a unit?

Look at the Epson HC720 (visualapex.com has a great deal) and the Panasonic ax-200 (no screen door, but slightly softer image).

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. Now I just need to figure out if there is anywhere in the Minneapolis area where I can demo either or hopefully both of those two units.

The HD65 has less offset than the other Optomas, it ight be an easier fit for the DLPs. The Mits PJs have the larger offset of the other Optomas.
