I have a question. I am considering removing my HD cable TV plan and just keeping RR cable Internet service.
My question is, what will I still be coming through the cable line with an HD tv or regular TV through the cable lines if I do this?

I have Time Warner in hudson valley NY.

Any help is appreciated
Thanks!

You will see very little if any video once you switch to RR only. The cable company will block out everything but what is needed for the internet service.

Not unless you're paying for some sort of TV package.

In our TWC area if you have RR internet but no TV service they charge more then if you have TV. However if you switch it to Earthlink internet service, they use the same cable line as RR and Earthlink e-mail/portal but they don't hit up up for the surcharge.

You will only get what you are paying for. If you cancel cable, they will install a trap which only allows the internet Rx/Tx frequencies to pass through and nothing else.

Wrong! You will still be able to recieve your local DIGITAL local channels in HD and SD if you have a qam tuner with the HSI trap installed. The trap that they install will filter out only the analog video channels. But as said above, you might as well as go with the limited basic and internet as it will be about the same price depending on area unless you go w/ Earthlink. If you go with Earthlink the same trap will be installed and you'll get the same local digital channels. Trust me, I've tried it.

I can assure you that is not by design. In my system, those filters remove all frequencies below the HSI path frequency. Everything above is allowed through and it so happens that quam frequencies are above the internet path. However, you can bank on it that as quam usage mainstreams, the filters will be replaced with a trap that only allows the HSI path and nothing else. For now, it is just not practical to replace many thousands of subsribers filters for the sake of channels most do not have the ability of knowledge to use.

It would make sense however to encrypt all those above that freq.
But true, if you have a qam tuner you will most likely get the HDs at the very least since they are typically at the edge of the spectrum, past the data downstream freq.
