is it not selling as well as it was when it debuted?

View Full Version : I noticed the Mits HC6000 hasn't been discussed much lately TomT99 03-10-08, 05:23 PM is it not selling as well as it was when it debuted? Laurence 03-10-08, 06:55 PM I'm very happy with mine. AudioBear 03-10-08, 06:59 PM I almost made the same post. I haven't ever seen one (or a VW60 or VW40 or any of the rest of these) but on paper it seems like a contender. Jason hasn't reviewed it and never mentions it. Except for not having D7 LCD chips it seems like this ought to be a contender. What am I missing? SPLawren 03-10-08, 09:58 PM I own one and have been quite impressed. Did a side by side, in my theater, of it versus a VW60 (and a previously owned HC5000), and it won on account of a few things (sharpness, size, Reon), but would have been thrilled with the VW60 too. The HC6000 seems to not be getting much air time on AVS, though it's really a great machine for the price. I think some of the "momentum" on the official HC6000 thread was stopped because it was mistakenly locked for a couple of days. Other than that, most people seem to be having few problems (debate on sporadic 24fps judder/frame skipping) and are just sitting back and enjoying their purchases. . . Edit: oh, and not to put words in Jason's mouth, but he did have a review model and was preparing a review but it got sold/transferred out before he could finish it. On the whole, he was very impressed with the price/performance, but would likely still recommend the VW60 and RS series for more performance (black levels, contrast) and $$$. I own one and have been quite impressed too. Exceedingly impressed with the quietness and the sharpness of the unit. I had the HC5000 too. I hated the iris on the HC5000. The iris is virtually invisible on the HC6000. I had a dust blob on my second HC5000. They seem to have this fixed on the HC6000 with the new external filter. The only negative I can see is the black levels. But I previously had CRT front projectors since 1979, so I am biased to the amazing black levels of CRT's. But the HC6000 has one of the better black levels of the digital projectors. And everything is a compromise. On a side note, my HC6000 was the one Jason was to do the review on. He calibrated it, and sent me a few screen-shots of the calibration, but he never did get around to doing a full review here. At least, I never saw it posted. One new "issue" that has recently cropped-up is the bulb setting. I have always found the "low" setting to be great in my totally light-controlled theater. Upon startup of my old HC5000, the unit would run on "normal" bulb mode for a few minutes, then drop down to my "low" setting. The HC6000, when set to "low" mode, never did this. It started right up on "low". I spoke to my friend at Mitsu tech support, and he said they changed that on the HC6000, so it would by-pass the "normal" mode when it was set on "low". But recently, my HC6000 just reverted by itself to the "normal" bright mode. I noticed it, and then re-set it to "low" power bulb mode. But now, it is acting exactly like the HC5000 did. It stays on "Normal" mode for a minute or 2, then jumps by itself into the "low" power mode. It does not seen to adversely affect anything, but I'll e-mail my Mits contact and see what he says. Other than that, my HC6000 has been trouble-free for over 1200 hours so far, and I love it. The BigRalf 03-11-08, 03:05 PM You hear a lot of a projector when it is announced but not out yet, when introduced and it has to be tweaked a lot to make a good picture and when there are lots of problems. Well, the 6000 is not new. And it does not have to be tweaked a lot. And it does make no problems. :-) CADOBHuK 03-12-08, 12:13 PM I also noticed that Epson 1080 UB is a lot more discussed..and even sony's.. are they overall better than hc6000? SMU Dog 03-12-08, 09:25 PM Well, the 6000 is not new. And it does not have to be tweaked a lot. And it does make no problems. :-) Pretty much says it all to me :-) The guy who did ISF calibration on mine kept telling me how surprised he was at how close to D6500 it was out of the box. Towards the end of the calibration I heard him murmur "Maybe I should start recommending the Mits...". I have been extremely pleased with mine over the 800+ hours I've had it. I'm also surprised about how popular I am now in my neighborhood :D killemillen 03-13-08, 06:29 AM Hello Guys, Yes the HC6000 is indeed a very impressing machine! I've had my HC6000 for a couple of days and the things that stand out most is the Sharpness, Good black level(and percieved contrast, Very fast IRIS (that can be "tuned" in 5 steps). The iris can be seen to work but it's not obtrusive (so far). AND as everybody knows it's QUIET! This really helps the soundtracks of the movies since ambient soundtrack sound and speech can be heard much better! Also the colors were surprisingly good out of the box. Two things I would like to be better or solved are: 1. The convergence is not dead on. Reading white letter on black background you can see the bottoms are red and top is green. How much? Not sure maybe 0.5 to 1 pixels (over the whole screen area). Can this be corrected by service people or myself in a service menu? 2. I can see the 24fps "bug" happen from time to time. This I don't like and would also like to be corrected. I mean pans look great from Blu-Ray 1080/24p and the suddenly a frame skips and there is a momentary judder. Too bad since the pans are generally very good. I would be most happy if Mitsu or someone that have talked to them could comment their thoughts (and possible solution for this). If its the HQV chip maybe it's hard to solve?? /Killemillen Pedro2 03-13-08, 05:33 PM For some people, a negative is that it is less flexible in terms of placement than some of the other LCDs (especially horizontal lens shift). Also, it is the only current model projector in its class that I know of that still uses the D6 rather than D7 chip--it apparently does a marvelous job with the D6 chip, so much so that it rivals what other projectors do with the D7, but imagine how good this projector would be with the D7! The Reon processor is probably an under-appreciated positive, as is a bulb that is much longer lasting than most on low setting. Its best know attribute of this projector, which nobody seems to dispute, is that is the best in its class in terms of sharpness. It can also be bought from AVS, which is a real plus for some (unlike the Epson or Panasonic, for example). emptychair 03-14-08, 06:07 PM I don't own the HC6000 but as a follower & user of pj's I see its relative lack of presence here as a good thing. It means that people are having very few problems, if any, with it. FWIW, I think the 24p issue is the only real legitimate bug... Laurence 03-14-08, 06:14 PM After two weeks with the HC6000 I sold my JVC RS1. HiHoStevo 03-14-08, 07:23 PM There were "rumors" flying around for a time (although none I have noticed lately) about there being a 6050 version coming from Mits with the D7 panels......, but like I said I have heard nothing for quite a while now........ |
