Hello!

I hope it's the right forum for my question.

I will optimize my DLP Beamer, I darkened the lightchamber a few weeks ago, and I'm pretty satisfied about the grown performance.

Now it's time for the second step, painting the framing around the chip in matt black. Therefore I need to remove the prism in front of DLP-Chip.

Has anybody experience with such activities? (positive AND negative ;) )

Regards,

Nimra

Interesting project. What brand and model of projector are you doing that mod on?

Have you been able to measure the impact of darkening your lightchamber?

I bow down to your techdom and balls in general.

Not that I have anything to add, but please detail your ideas, and experiences here with these modifications.

Hi,

no, I didn't measured the contrast before and after. At the beginning, we just want to clean the BenQ PE8720, therefore we stripped the housing and dismounted the objective....later on we started to paint some parts matt black, there was no measurement session scheduled at this day :D

But it was really clear that some flaws in the picture was cured. Like a lightspot beside the screen, caused by a black anodized aluminum sheet in the chamber which was bleached at one point. This artefact appeared slowly over the operating time (2000h+).
2. projected areas like dark grey or 'black' was much more balanced than before (a output of the painted chamber where the DLP, prism and mirror are installed) And subjective more visible details in dark filmscenes.

Now I'm must do the last step and cover the small bright metalframe around the DLP Chip with paint to banish the last not wanted lightreflection. (That causes a lightframe around the picture that can be controlled, but I'm sure it also reduces contrast)

I see my old 8720 in best shape ever and I want more! :)

Regards!

P.S.: we used simple 1k matt black, it's not that hot in the chamber, UV is more a problem.

For the ultimate in DLP modification check out this (http://archive.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=296958) old classic thread. How I miss those good old days.... :) Hey, what am I talking about we got crazy folks modifying RS1s! Has the RS1 replaced the X1 and LT150 as the tweekers machine?

Hi,

so You can see, there is always something to do :D

Yes, I remember those thread, and a remember another one, a manic crack darkened the chamber of his DLP with carbon black from a burning candle.

...still waiting for some information from those experienced people who dismounted a DLP prism, and get it right back at the same place....
