Hey everybody, I'd like to share my experience that I have had over the past few weeks with Moome and his IFB card.

As some may know/seen in my sig, I own a Sony 1272QM. I had bought the Moome IFB-HD w/ gamma card for it after purchasing an IScan VP20 for HDMI connection.
Now both units are fantastic, even the entry level VP20 is awesome and makes DVD's look very nice as it runs the CRT near its optimum which i've found to be 720P.
Anyways, while watching a film one night, the screen flickered a bit and then went blue. Blue is the 'no signal' color of the IFB-HD, so i knew something was a miss near my components end. I moved the cabinet out a bit to get behind it and then poof, there was smoke, a bang and swear words!
After looking around, i found that the powerplug of the VP20 had scorched/burnt near where it connect to the powerpoint...in this case, a double adaptor. I also noticed that the picture on the projector had gone black...which was unusual because it should still be blue if the IFB card had no signal..uh oh.
So after messing around with it and seeing what damage had occoured, finally i found that what ever that surge/spike was, it took out my VP20's HDMI output (the unit still turned on and all), one of the HDMI cables (the one that connects to the wall), and the IFB-HD HDMI input. Funny enough the IFB's component input still worked fine!
So onto Moome i got thinking that this was going to be a tiresome and costly excercise of sending the card back to Taiwan. After 24 hours, my email was answered and an address, telephone number and instructions in it. Awesome!
So i sent it off, hoping that i'd see my somewhat expensive piece of silicon back in my hands! Did the same with the VP20, although that only had to go local.
After a few update emails from Moome, the card is now back in my hands as of today! Some 4 weeks after i send it back. What a fantastic turnaround! I am simply amazed at how fast Moome was able to recieve the card, diagnose and wait for parts, test and ship back to me!
The main reason i'm writing this is to let people know out there that my experience with Moome and his company have been fantastic, and the customer service is next to none! I understand he is very busy with his company and yet still found the time to help me out. Thankyou Moome!.

PS. Still waiting on my VP20 to come back from the 'local' place here in Melbourne...

Again, thanks Moome for the great customer service and to everyone wanting to purchase an item of him, i highly recommend it. Not just for the device itself, but for the customer service and satisfaction you get, even after you have purchased it. Alot of companies tend to forget all about you after you've made your purchase, but in this case, totally opposite.

PPS. Definetly not using a double adaptor again for any sensitive device! And i think ill be investing in a PureAV powerboard that has good surge protection! Still to this day though, I don't know what caused the fault.

Thanks for reading my boring story hehe!

Regards,
Kurt from Melbourne Australia.

Thanks for the feedback Kurt
I have been contemplating a moome card and was wondering what customer support might be like, so information like this is very welcome. Forums naturally tend to attract problems so positive posts like this are important for balance.

I'm off to take a look at the Moome site (if you haven't already it might be worth a quick post there also)

He was also very prompt in reimbursing my shipping costs on my Ext-HD box, which was sent back for repair. I didn't really expect to be reimbursed for shipping to get repaired -, but it was pretty impressive investigating the problems with the original boxes; finding a repair path in NA; and getting reimbursed promptly from Taiwan.

I have a Momitsu dvd player with my 1272. run 1080i Think setup would look better using this card? It's very awsome right now

It would certainly look better, how much better depends on how crappy the component output is on the Momitsu. The gamma adjustment also adds a lot to the picture too and is half the reason why people use these cards.

I thought my picture looked great too over component until I went with HDMI and a gamma boost.

I had a Momitsu and it was modified by a local callibrator down here in Aus from Avical . He converted it to a 5 x BNC output by bypassing a few things from the DVI ( if i knew what he did i would tell you but it was ALLOT more than just the equivelent of a DVI break out cable equivelent ) .

At the time , going from my normal DVD player to the Momitsu was a huge difference and it was great for the time but since i went Bluray , the momitsu is absolutely obsalete , in fact its now in the kids play room on an old Sony 68cm .

My first upgrade would be to go blue ray if the budget allows .

Unfortunately i had a few issues with setting up my IFB-HD card from Moome this week and emailed Moome directly to tryto get some help or ideas .

1 : Emailed him , i receive replies within a few hours - Excellent
2 : His first priority is to help customer and i could see this in his replies - Excellent
3 : He fixed my problem from the other side of the planet - Excellent

His stuff may have taken a while to get here with no updates but if you need help , hes an email away and there to offer as much support as he can .

Excellent .

Thanx Moome

The Momitsu, while a great player in its day, suffers from different output levels on each component or analogue DVI-I output. This throws the colour balance way off. There was a link which allowed you to bypass the culprit analogue switch (each internal switch had a different resistance, so gave you different levels out).

See http://archive2.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=388699&page=11&pp=30 Find the post by bblue for the PDF file (I had to right click and save to my desktop to view).

There is also a thread on other mods for the Momitsu http://archive.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=336698&highlight=momitsu

From what I remember, everyone who used the DVI output said it was a good improvement.

Card received but when I plugged it into a Sony VPH=G90 the card was a little too wide to fit easily between the rails . The card does not give a acceptable picture on 480 , 720 i or p nor on 1080 I It works for a very short time with 1080P/24 input then black horizontal lines and wide black bands appear.
On the lower formats the colors are spread out i.e. not congruent.

I tried two different Sony BlueRay s and a satelite receiver with
HDMI 1080i output as well as a very short HDMI cable . The results are the same.

Can anyone help please??

You cannot use 24Hz on *ANY* CRT projector. No CRT projector will scan that low. See the IFB-HD manual - it states that while the card can accept that sort of signal, the projector cannot use it. This is not a fault of the card. 24 hz would flicker like crazy.

You cannot use 24 hz output from any source on a CRT projector unless you feed it through a scaler first to at least double or triple the refresh rate to 48 or 72Hz.

On the lower formats the colors are spread out i.e. not congruent.
You have to redo the setup of the projector for the new resolution. This is not a fault of the card. The IFB-HD card cannot make the colours "non-congruent" (ie: not converged) even if it wanted to. It's the projector - it's not set up for the resolution you're trying to use.

It sounds like you've simply plugged the card in and have never set up the G90 for the resolutions you want to use. You have to go through and do the convergence on the G90.

HDMI 1080i output as well as a very short HDMI cable . The results are the same.
As they should be. You need to set up the projector for the new resolutions.

Go through the setup guide - see your G90 manual.
If you cannot do this, get the person who originally set up the projector for you to do this.
