I recently switched from component to DVI - HDMI on my Comcast HD-DVR and I'm running into some weird problems with the picture. I always leave my box turned on, but now when I turn on the TV, I end up getting a picture like this:

Is this a handshake issue between the box and the TV? I always thought that handshake issues resulted in no picture.

It's a Vizio VM60P and I believe the box is a Motorola 6412 (I think). I end up having to press the guide button to fix the picture, so it looks like it's a problem with the box. The sound is fine, but the picture is shifted??

So do you have the same problem with 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i output from your 6412?
Have you set the TV picture settings to differnt size options to be when receiving 4:3 resolution, 720p resolution or 1080i resolution?
You may want to get your cable company to replace your 6412 model II with a 6412 model III which has a HDMI output connection instead of a DVI.

I had this problem with my 6412PII. Known bug. Just pressing guide restores it. If your box is stable and doesn't reboot, i'd keep it rather than rolling the dice on a new box.

I tried 720p and 1080i, both had the same result. As for 4:3, it's set for 480p so I can get the full screen as opposed to the vertical bars.

My box doesn't reboot, but it is pretty buggy. It seems like almost every time I try to do anything, the box freezes for about 30 seconds and then accepts my input. Maybe I'll call Comcast and get them to replace the box, because the constant freeze is driving me up a wall.

Thanks for the replies!!!
