Has anyone received Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 yet ? If so, what are your impressions ? I've been a Pro Evolution Soccer since its early days on Sega Genesis (Megadrive......anyone ?? :) ) and been waiting for a next generation PES since a long time and from the early reviews it seems like this year my prayers will be answered...........finally.

It depends if they Patch PES 2008 for the PS3. I am from England, (but live in Portland) and PES 2008 has been out for months there. When people first got the game they said it was terrible. Laggy gameplay, poor online, generally overall sloppy.

Then Konami released a patch for the game that seemed to make things better. However speaking to freinds who are/where PES fans. They say that FIFA08 is actually better this year.

I played Fifa 08 and wasn't too impressed with it. Even though its better than previous version it still lacks the polished gameplay of PES. The biggest flaw in Fifa is that players move like robots and gameplay lags smoothness.

Thats what i am saying. PES 2008 is actually alot worse than FIFA 08 this year. Alot of slow-down and Jerky gameplay. As a big Soccer fan i thought FIFA 08 was good this year. While i think PES was better nearly every other year. Personally i hope the US version has been patched and made to run better. I mean they have had months to work on it since its European release date last October.

Has anyone found it in stores yet? (us/canada) I'm hoping I can buy it today. I have played the demo and quite like it but still feel like the game isn't quite where I want it to be.

I wouldn't expect the US version to be any different than what has already been released. I have played the PES demo and was left unimpressed. The ball physics are strange- almost too fast like you are playing on astro turf. Frame rate drops in and out. Very disappointing as I have always been a fan of PES over the years. I purchased FIFA 08 (which I normally dislike) and love it. No, it's not perfect but a HUGE improvement over previous versions.

That's a bit depressing to hear. IGN UK rated PES 08 quite highly. I'm a Brit in Canada so I picked up FIFA as a stop gap.. played it on and off for a week and haven't touched it since. It isn't in the same league any version of PES I've played to date. If PES is truly worse then, shoot, it looks like I'll be passing. If you'll excuse the puns.

I've always been a fan of PES since Winning Eleven 7 (US), but I've heard good things about the new FIFA that I may pick that up instead this time around.

I miss the other konami series. International Superstar Soccer, do they still make that overseas?

I like PES as well but just seems like Madden games where it barely changes each year and this year the demo isn't buttery smooth like it should be.

how did you get the demo?

Was up on the EU store a while back. May still be there.

fyi - just create another PSN ID and make sure as your region you put any country in the EU (i.e. UK, Italy, Spain etc... I think even Austraulia will load you into the EU PSN store)

Same goes for the Japanse store.

I imported PES this season for the first time, and was blown away by how lackluster it turned out in it's PS3 debut.

All signs point to the PS2 game once again being the go to title this season. The "current gen" versions are just not up to par with the gameplay and editing features that the PS2 game offers.

The games lead Developer Seabass is well aware that this years game is a disappointment. Here's an interview with him from last October where talks about a few different topics regarding the series and as well as the PS3. I believe that was last year's version that got trashed because of all the problems. According to Ign UK, Konami has fixed all the problems in 2008 version.

Anybody play the U.S. version yet??? I've read a couple post at gamefaqs indicating no slow down (like the UK demo has) but I'd rather have a bit more feedback before biting.

FYI, Fry's has it for $44.99.

Do you know if that is a one day sale at Frys?

Better not be because they didn't receive them yesterday. Only $5 off but still better than the full $49.99 price. The add doesn't say "1 day only" so probably still on sale. You can call your local Fry's to see if they have it in plus the price.

Keep in mind Fry's newspaper adds aren't always 100% the same in different regions. I'm in the S.F. Bay Area region.

Ok, I played a couple of matches. The framerate is much improved from the older UK demo. Still has somewhat chuggy replay's but actually gameplay is pretty solid for the most part, it isn't perfect as once in a while I did notice a hiccup or slowdown but pretty rare and nothing like the demo. Don't expect any impressive visuals, grass texture looks last gen.. I have not tried online yet.

Got it yesterday. I played it for almost three hours yesterday and it didnt look slow to me at all. it is my first time buying PES so I wish all teams had their cool jerseys rather than just the colors. anyways I think its very good.
