View Full Version : Home theater move over 3d is comin to the theaters. Alan Gouger 03-11-08, 04:54 PM http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080311/ap_en_mo/hollywood3_d;_ylt=Apo5HF6odLSQrgIWHZYeHBJxFb8C donaldk 03-11-08, 09:58 PM Those in the US can pick up a DLP rear-pro from Mitsubishi or Samsung that does 3D (they hope laser and 3D will slowdown the demise of RPTV market segment). Content and players are on the way, the vendors claim. LCDs capable of showing prepared 3D content have also been 'introduced' at CES this year, by Samsung and probably others. There's even an LCD screen that can convert 2D content on the fly. And of course the SuperKontrast can do 3D as well;-). Alan Gouger 03-12-08, 12:21 AM Yes but for HT we have no content:( Id love to see a movie in 3D in our HTs. CINERAMAX 03-12-08, 12:41 AM Yes but for HT we have no content:( Id love to see a movie in 3D in our HTs. You must join the Miami BADC, these fine folks are being outfitted, with engineering being done as we speak. ;) darinp2 03-12-08, 01:19 AM Given that Paramount is one of the 4 studios they mentioned helping finance this move to digitals, I think it will be interesting if the upcoming Indiana Jones really won't be available for digital projectors (because Spielberg reportedly only wants it shown with film in theaters). There ertr rumors a few months ago about Spielberg leaving (maybe going back to Universal), but Universal is one of the studios also helping finance this move to digitals. --Darin The Bogg 03-12-08, 10:56 AM Just came back from Disney World where they had a 3d demo called "Mickey's Philharmagic Orchestra" with 3d glasses. Wow, has the technology ever come a long way! It was quite enjoyable and spooky at times. Decent sound there too with strong bass. I still prefer 2d right now for movies but hey I'm open to change! donaldk 03-12-08, 04:08 PM Yes but for HT we have no content:( Id love to see a movie in 3D in our HTs. Mitsubishi has been promising publicly there will be players and content (first half) this year. tleavit 03-12-08, 05:59 PM Just came back from Disney World where they had a 3d demo called "Mickey's Philharmagic Orchestra" with 3d glasses. Wow, has the technology ever come a long way! It was quite enjoyable and spooky at times. Decent sound there too with strong bass. I still prefer 2d right now for movies but hey I'm open to change! I was in Disney land a few weeks back and went into their 3 theaters there with 3d. If I recall right, Bugs life, Honey I shrunk the kids and I forgot the 3rd. I was absolutely amazed at their technology AND the sound in their theaters. The 3d stuff absolutely freaked my kids out and every other kid in the room who was under 10ish years old (kids screaming all over the place). Absolutely amazing 3d. Dream1 03-13-08, 11:47 AM The Disney Attractions are top notch 3D! However, the best I've seen is the U2 3D (http://www.u23dmovie.com/) Amazing!! I've never seen anything like it! They also showed the trailer for the first Full Length feature film in 3D. It looked great! thebland 03-13-08, 12:16 PM Do you need a specialized screen for this? Can any projector do it? What electronics are needed? I know little about this... CINERAMAX 03-14-08, 03:00 AM YOU NEED EITHER A BARCO DP1500 OR 2000 OR TWO CHRISTIES 2000M. The Barco presents two images at 60-76 frames per second in 4:2:2 instead of the normal 4:4:4 the system is married by secure Dongle (hangs on a key chain) to the Dolby Show Teracart. http://cineramax.com/images/dolby-distributiom.jpg A color wheel is installed in the Barco Projector: http://cineramax.com/images/Dolby3Ddiagram-458x600.jpg http://cineramax.com/images/Dolby3Dwheel-358x600.jpg http://cineramax.com/images/Dolby3Dfilt-cont-550x139.jpg The filter controller is attached to the Dolby show player, and voila. In Helene we used a custom made adapter for 1600 watt USHIO lamp, it sits on a removable aluminium housing. For 3-D on the same screen you need 2.5 x times the light, 3-D is just inefficient, the air handling system for the prOjector should be scalable from 225 cfm to 350 cfm if you use a second 3kw lamp house. A Bel Air Digital Circuit client typically gets the movies the night before they start at the local theater from the Film Distribution House, 24 hours are allowed for QC, the dvd that fits the rom drive of the server holds the key for the typical engagement duration 3,4,5,6 weeks. The Dolby TI encryption system marries through dongle authentication the individual projector, the individual server/player and their resident IP adresses. I have seen both the Imax and Dolby Barco Beowulf presentations and the DCI creams the film transfer in lifelikeness. The glasses are 75$ each. http://cineramax.com/images/Dolby3DGlasses.jpg CINERAMAX 03-14-08, 12:57 PM http://www.christiedigital.com/NR/rdonlyres/A4D1E48B-906C-4EFD-B728-6CDDA143133A/0/christie3D2P_bottomImage.jpg CINERAMAX 03-14-08, 01:02 PM http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/ne/p/2007/3d-movie_chart-450x600.jpg CINERAMAX 03-14-08, 01:06 PM http://www.cinematical.com/media/2008/01/j3d_1shtdom_web-(2).jpg http://www.collider.com/uploads/imageGallery/Beowulf/beowulf_teaser_poster_onesheet_l.jpg thebland 03-14-08, 01:07 PM Now that is an explanation...Thanks! Steve Bruzonsky 03-14-08, 01:37 PM We saw U2 3D at the local IMAX. We were disappointed. Though the 3D was neat it was so low resolution that the Rolling Stones IMAX movie we saw some years ago killed it. So yes 3D sounds COOL - the question is how well will it be implemented or will it be more of a gimmick??? CINERAMAX 03-14-08, 03:23 PM Beowuld 2d gives you a lot of clues as to how 3d is now being used. |
