ok im on the fence now...im thinking of getting the tivo hd dvr and giving back my twc SA 8300HD dvr...from what i understand speaking to Tivo and TWC there are a few goodies on tivo that twc does not have..the monthy price is about the same after i give back the 8300 and get the m card, and i just have to buy the tivo box $300.. the only thing i will not have a ppv... i can still get movies through tivo from aazon unbox if i wanted and the guide from tivo too. i never use the ondemand stuff.
my question is is it worth it?? are there any quality of picture differences? audio dif?? help me make a decission guys.

I don't know about TWC's SA 8300HD dvr, but I do have Tivo-HD.

:cool:LOVE IT!

I have been a Tivo user since 2001 and the Tivo-HD and series-3's rock! Best part is they can be networked and many other little aps like simple games, and mp3 players can be ran. You can't beat the online scheduling if you are away from home and have internet access. Picture quality is just as good as the Motorola HD box Comcast provided and as good as my Samsung HD tuner box.

Recordings can be transfered to your computer, converted to standard mpeg formats and burned to DVD. Starting with an HD recoding makes a very stunning looking DVD.

Yes the upfront cost is high, but if you watch for promotions you can still get lifetime subscriptions. Lifetime adds to the upfront cost but you make that up in two or three years of service.

fiddlyD,

I own a TivoHD. I've tried every DVR from every provider, and it is the best on the market. It is a massive improvement over the SA8300HD with SARA used by Comcast in my area. That said, I probably wouldn't buy one now if I were in your position.

Why? SDV. Time Warner has extensively deployed new HD channels using SDV technology. As of today, the TiVo cannot tune SDV channels, which means you won't receive those HD channels. TiVo and cable companies have announced a SDV adapter that will connect to the USB port on the TiVo, and add support for those channels. However, that adapter is still months away, with availability slated for 'first half 2008'.

With most other cable companies, I would not hesitate to recommend the TiVo. But given Time Warner did not wait for the availability of the SDV adapter to widely deploy SDV (like some other cable companies), I would probably pass on the TiVo. Once the USB SDV adapter is available in 3-4 months, then I would again consider the TiVo for use with TWC.

Another TiVo lover here, but I also would warn folks considering it. Besides SDV, you do lose VOD and PPV, and Amazon Unbox is not a substitute, by any stretch of the imagination. The downloads are not yet HD for TiVos, and they also don't have Closed Captions. And of course, they almost always cost something.

Also, another note about the tuning resolver. I know Comcast has made a commitment to provide it, but has Time Warner?
