Simple poll. There is lot discussion about Blu profiles that only affect the extras, and is being used as a reason to not adopt Blu.

I want to know how much to you care about extras! For me extras are just fluff! I rather pay less for a plain copy!

Were is

I care for extras, when they are motivated and well produced.

For a old classic Catalouge title that inlcudes a newly produced doc, i sometimes wants the doc, and the movie is just bonus. ;)

But for most part when extras is just reused promomaterial, I wouldnt care.

Great Poll!

Where are the positive choices? All I see are negative choices - or B & W choices only:(

Sometimes the blooper/deleted scenes. Other than that, nada. If I could pay less for a vanilla copy, I am all for it.

A couple answer suggestions:

If I can choose between the two I will choose the version w/ extras.
If I can choose between the two I will choose the version w/o extras.

There are some other variables that make this poll problematic anyway. For instance, is the feature quality better on the titles w/o extras?

How about another choice. "I enjoy them when they are available".

I will not refuse to purchase a good movie if it doesn't have them but they are nice if they are there.

This is a tough one...

I care about extras, but not the same as other people do. For example here is my like/dislike list

I detest PIP commentaries (or any commentaries) during the movie.
I usually don’t care for the actors profiles unless it has someone new that I have not seen before.

I like bloopers as it is great fun seeing people screw up
I like the deleted scenes
I like the special effects guys talking about how they managed to pull off a shot

A good example is Black Hawk Down, especially where they went in detail on the special effects shots.

The poll doesn't offer the following important choice: "I only want extras if the PQ and AQ of the movie itself is not compromised to make space on the disc for the extras."

Hi,

I’m a big fan of extras. The better the movie, the more likely we are to view the extras. I frequently have folks over to view movies, and the vast majority of the time afterwards we view extras and discuss our reactions. My guests and I find that it enhances the overall experience. For really good movies I’ll always go back and view the director’s commentaries.

With regard to the option, “I rather get a copy without extras and pay less!”, the poll fails to recognize that with all HD DVD players and Profile 2.0 Blu-ray players the studios have the option of adding “extras” that can be selectively downloaded by folks who value the additional content. For example, these new interactive features permit the studios to put a minimum number of subtitles or alternate languages on the disc, but viewers, with suitably equipped players, can download the content without adversely affecting those viewers who don’t need it.

Perhaps in the future, when many Profile 2.0 players are in the marketplace, and bandwidth considerations are less of a constraint, there will be the bare minimum of extras on the disc, but viewers will still selectively have access to content that they care about.

If there are 2 versions of a movie, I'll usually go with the version with more extras (even if its a couple of $ more). At least that was the case with SD DVD. I've noticed, at least right now, that choice is not available with HDM. And I've been disappointed with some catalog titles that I've re-bought on BD. There are Many extras that are simply not there on BD (Hellboy and Resident Evil: Apocalypse for example).

I don't think so but since you can't change the poll the point is moot.

Not enough options in the poll though. I would have picked "if given a choice between the movie with and without extras, and the one with extras didn't cost much extra, I'd get the one with extras. (In fact sometimes the 2 disc, extras one costs less than the single disc no extras one)

I always watch the extras, and in fact consider them to be as potentially enjoyable as the movie. Of course this depends on the quality of the extras themselves, but in general, they are extremely important too me.

The arguements against losing PQ and/or AQ to make room for extras are somewhat valid IMO, but from my perspective, if the overall package is worth it, I am all for multiple disks, in which case there should be no loss.

Although I may not watch all of them, and it may take me a while to get to them, I prefer my discs to have extras.

I agree with several of the above in that if given the choice between a non-extras and extras version, I'll pay more to get the extras.

I also think it would be a shame if bd 2.0 leads to no extras being on discs due to them being downloadable. There's just something to be said for having everything at your fingertips physically with no wait time.

I voted for the first option, as there are some movies I'll wait to buy in hopes that a version with more extras comes out (Alien Quad, Office Space, I held off on the Trek movies till the collectors editions came out...).

I typically don't care all that much for extras, but sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised, like last time with 3:10 to Yuma, with loads of PBS like historical background features. Even then, it's only a one time viewing. And I completely skip those how they filmed it.

A lot of times I find the extras makes the movie itself more interesting .
Extras are on sd and should be on blu-ray or any format .imo
I never listen to commentary as the movie plays, but making of's and interviews, am most likley will watch that ...

Agreed> I love extras, but ill still buy a movie if they are not included.

Whats the point of a poll if all the answers are biased. Didn't vote, they is no choice that suits me.

I never used to listen to the commentary until recently. I like to let the movie play an 2nd time w/ commentary while I multi-task. A couple standouts are the Riddick HD-DVD PIP's and the John Carpenter/ Kurt Russell vocal track for "The Thing". Russell is pretty damn funny.

Everytime you watcha Disney movie, you watch extras...no choice.
They force you to watch trailers and other junk.

Wouldn't it be cool if instead they downloaded current trailers, and you could watch them instead? The ship has sailed on that for Blu-ray though. Too many players will never be able to do that.

The only choice that supports extras is a little over the top. I would definately prefer the extra material, but it doesn't mean I will not buy a title without them. To me it is obvious the OP is against trailers and that the way the choices are laid out proves it. Another slanted Poll.

The new BD version of Fox's PATTON is a 2 disc set.

Disc 1 - the movie (BD50) - includes full-length audio commentary by Francis Ford Coppola.

Disc 2 - the extras (BD25)

Kind of a whacky poll, since the choices are not mutually exclusive. I actually fall into several of these categories. The bottom 3, actually.

Hi,

I agree and I didn't mean to suggest in my earlier posting (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=13359697&postcount=16) that bare bones discs, with large amounts of downloadable extras would be feasible anytime soon. There is a significant amount of video content, especially HD video extras, that would make this technically infeasible for a long time.

Such bare bones, bargain discs might be an option when digital distribution starts making inroads to the packaged media market.

I should have more clearly stated that with Profile 2.0 players, we don't have to have an "all or nothing" approach to extras as Option #4 suggests.

By the time I get the kids down and my work done its usually late at night so I just skip to the movie. The extras are nice but I rarely have time to watch them and if I do then I will end up falling asleep during the movie. :( If it did lower the cost I would definitely choose to remove them or offer just a title copy and a special edition with all the extras for those who want them.

From what I read though, the extras that 2.0 affects are interactive online ones.... not the java ones like DVD. I don't even use those on my HD DVD player now

I'd prefer just the movie (with perhaps an alternate ending if one were to exist)...and maybe some deleted scenes. As for the "Making of.....", "Behind the scenes..." stuff....stick that on a website somewhere. Let me download that if I've the slightest interest.
