I see that Tony has the uncut version of Saw on HD DVD from Germany at xploited. Anyone have impressions on this? I am very interested.

If you are willing to get more than one movie, it would be cheaper for you to order this from Amazon.de

My package of Saw, Silent Hill and Brothers Grimm should be here on the 17th

I received it yesterday, but haven't had time to play it yet. I will probably do it tomorrow, and post my impressions here.

Thanks for the tip. Some good prices for imports. Just picked up a bunch of titles on that list that I don't currently own including Saw :)

Well, mine came in yesterday and I watched it last night.

It looks pretty good for such a low budget film. The online extras are ok but they take forever to load up. I tried to watch KINGZ but it seems like it's only available in German.

Popped it in yesterday, and i was unfortunately pretty dissapointed with the PQ:( It looked no better than a upconverted DVD on my setup. It was grainy and full of compression artifacts! And i have never seen and HD DVD that soft  The sound was okay. It comes with a DTS HD HR 7.1 soundtrack, and had some nice effects, but the dialogue wasn't always up to par.

The movie is a classic though:D

Are you sure there's nothing wrong with your setup? Despite the grain (which is intentional) it looks almost as sharp as movies like Transformers at times (quite often actually) and I didn't notice any compression artifacts. It's miles ahead of the SD DVD version.

Did anyone review this? I want to know what the image is like really (online extras mean nothing to me ever). Never found images from this disc online either.

mine just arrived as a gift from abroad to me and it doesn`t work. on the E1 says not play and sometimes it just spits it out with no play. on the xbox on the other hand, it plays the kinowelt logo, but then apart from the second time I put it in it just gives a black screen and the console is unresponsive. what there is to be done? once it did manage to play it after all.

I own this movie. I think it looks great. The opening scene sounds awesome on my surround sound. ;)

Soft and upconverted is not how I would describe this movie.

firmware on the xbox solved my problem. guess an upgrade for the E1 would do the trick as well.

Maybe Specsavers could help then? :D Does anyone know if the German Saw 2&3 HD DVDs are definitely cancelled? Just asking because my German T2 HD DVD came with a leaflet that includes Saw 2&3 in it with the date 12.08.2008 next to them. (That's the 12th of August, not the 8th of December, for Americans reading this because in Europe the day number comes first not the month number.) I know some might say that the leaflet was probably printed before the HD DVDs were cancelled but if that's the case then why isn't Saw 4 listed as well since that was announced but recently cancelled too? (It's listed in the Blu-Ray section of the leaflet along with Jumper which was announced but recently cancelled on HD DVD and isn't in the HD DVD section.) Also I'm sure the last date I saw for them before they were reported as cancelled was July. (They were actually originally meant to come out in March.) I've got Blu-Ray now (via a cheap new PC that I'll remotely control via my laptop, cheap but good I think since it's got a Q6600 Quad Core, HD 2400 Pro, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD and 7.1 sound although I've only got an old cheap 5.1 system so can't take advantage of that yet) so I can buy the other Saws in Blu-Ray but I would have preferred to have the set (well, so far) all in the same format. :( I'll still get the German versions of at least Saw 2&3 though (whether it's on HD DVD or Blu-Ray) since I don't want the no-featured crap UK&USA Saw 2&3 Blu-Rays!

Not sure about the German release, but Saw III (Dutch release) is available at Xploited: http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/dutch-release-p-13146.html

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Although the German versions were meant to be the best. If they don't come out on HD DVD in Germany and the German Saw 3 Blu-Ray isn't any better than the Dutch HD DVD then I'll probably get the Dutch one since I'm sure I'd be able to get it cheaper than the Blu-Ray.

The Dutch has Master Audio, while the Blu has DD EX and DTS ES.

I've noticed a lot of European HD DVDs have either DTS HD or DTS HD MA. It looks like America got the shaft for a lot of movies' audio for some reason. (If you care about that that is, honestly I don't as long as it sounds good in regular DD 5.1 since I don't have the equiptment for the HD and lossless stuff but I doubt I'd notice much difference even if I did.)
