Well i have attached a .pdf file of the rough layout of my basement... not the best situation for doing a decent HT room, but it is what i have to work with. As for right now, i am thinking that the only wall to put the HT equipment would be on the wall next to the stairs. I will have a wall there that is about 7 feet wide to put the equipment. I am thinking of using wall mounted speakers on either side of the TV, center channel above the TV and the 5.1 rear speakers towards the corner. Sub could go either on one of the side walls or the front wall. i will run RG6 to both sides, rear and front just in case.

What are your guys opinion on how i could set this up better? Couch would run against the long wall and possibly on the wall that borders the bathroom.

Couple of questions, are you planning on using a projector or flat panel or ??? How tall are your ceilings?

Flat panel. probably in the 42-46" range. Ceilings once finished will be rather short.. around 7-7.25 feet high.

Thanks,

I would be tempted to hang the flat panel on the 14' wall opposite of the stairs. Put the couch on the stair wall and the equipment inside the closet under the stairs. If you didn't put the couch right against the wall you could cut an opening in the stair wall so you could have front access to your equipment in the room then access to the backside of the equipment inside the closet. With the flat panel on the 14' wall you have plenty of room for inwall FL and FR speakers or towers whichever you want to use. It also gives you plenty of room if you ever decide to go bigger on the flat panel or switch over to a projector. With this configuration I would probably go with ceiling mounted rear speakers. However you do it I think it will make for a great theater room. Good Luck.

thanks, the problem is the wife is worried about having enough seating, so that short 7 wall is a pretty small couch...(yea, i know) just not the perfect room, but i am trying to shoehorn one in there. I was thinking about putting the TV on the wall with the stairs with wall mounted speakers and that way then i have the long back wall and the two shorter walls for stairs. this will basically be another family room and not a full HT (bummer, i know)
