Of course the question about hushboxes is situation specific. But I'm wondering if the use of hushboxes for taming projector noise is coming close
to irrelevance.
As it happens I have ordered a hushbox to be built for a JVC RS2 projector (not yet purchased). My thinking was that it would be a good idea because I plan on putting the projector in a cabinet behind the viewing sofa, with a lift mechanism that lifts the projector up for viewing and down out of sight when not in use (the home theater is going into a living room). This would place the projector about 2 or 2 1/2 feet above our head, maybe 7" behind the viewing sofa. Pretty close.
When I was researching projectors there were still enough comments about projector noise in some reviews and from owners that I thought "might as well be safe - with a hushbox I'll never really have to factor in how loud a projector is into my purchase decision, especially given the proximity to the viewer."
But then, the cabinet really has to be expanded somewhat for the hushbox, adding to the projector cabinet bulk. As well, it might make adding an anamorphic lens to the system more challenging down the road. So I'm mulling over whether my decision was a good one. (I think it probably is).
Do other people here use husboxes? Or are they going the way of the Dodo due to projectors getting more quiet these days.
