I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but Best Buy, at leastthe one I looked at, still carry Dual Disc music. It's mixed in with all the other CD's so you have to look hard, but I was surprised at just how many were there. Some I didn't even know were released on Dual Disc.

Sometimes I still think there's hope for our hi-rez formats, at least until something better comes along.

Do like closely at them though - many/most are Sony releases which are NOT DVD-A on the flip side. They are "enhanced resolution" 2 channel which is code for 48K sampling rather than CD's 44.1K. There are some Dual Discs that are DVD-A, but I think 75% of the ones I look at are Sony's lame implementation. Perhaps in part it's because I've alrady bought all the DVD-A Dualies I can find...

If it's really high resolution audio, you'll find a "DVD-A" logo on the back as opposed to DVD-V.

even rarer still are the ones with any kind of surround mix

I was skimming Best Buy for dualies too and picked up Switchfoot's "Beautiful Letdown" on a whim. I've only heard one song from them so I took a chance and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I like it. It's only DVD V but it's in 5.1 surround and sounds pretty good.

I didn't actually know Dualdisc COULD have DVD-A in its spec until the other week. I've generally avoided it altogether, thinking <what's the point>. But, there's the silver lining around the dark cloud. Might look for something using SiriuslyCold's seriously cool registry!

thanks *blush* :)

it's (the DualDisc format) even deader than DVD-A, IMO

at least Ringo and Steven Wilson released DVDAs this year

having said that, I kinda like the mix on Ben Folds' Songs for Silverman Dualdisc, and hankering to get Hooverphonic's No More Sweet Music (http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8313)

Dobby,

You will be pleasantly surprised (if you didn't know already) but Beautiful letdown is also available in SACD hybrid.

Don't forget Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" as well, if you can find one.

Thanks Oblio. Yes, certainly my favorite dualdisc. Strangely, you won't find a single "dualdisc" designation anywhere near this disc. Warner didn't call it dualdisc.

Is Medula her only DVD-A? I've got that but would love more surround mixes.
I've only got the Jane Monheit "Tis the Season" an ok disk, some good standards, but, rather more 'easy listening' than true vocal jazz that she can do much better.

Vespertine was a DVD-A too.
