Smaller theater build here. Thinking about using a bar/countertop for a second row of seating. It would only be used as overflow seating, but with that said I want it comfortable enough that I wouldn't mind sitting in it for 3 hours on a football sunday.

Anyone have any suggestions on some really comfortable bar stools? A prerequisite would be for it to have a back, arms are optional.

I've been doing a search for the EXACT same over the last couple of weeks. If you Google "upholstered parsons bar stools" you will find more options then you can imagine. Just a FYI, the 24 inch counter height stool will probably be tall enough if you are just doing one row of seating. I'm looking for 30 inch bar height.

Here is a pricey one I found at I.M. David, don't know $ but this brand is $500+/chair

here is a cheap version but I have no way of knowing if they are comfortable.

I've found on-line options at Target, Room and Board, Crate and Barrel, Pottery barn, Home Decorators, and every imaginable bar stool web site.

Berkline even makes comfortable looking bar stools (I have berkline theater seats)

While my search for my third row seating stools continues I did order these for in front of my rear wall bar.

$500 is too rich for my blood.....I need something in the $150 range, these seats will only be used for overflow, most likely during football games. I know there are alot of online sites, but I think I would perfer to buy from a store, just so I can test the stools out. But then again, the best advertisement is word of mouth, so if someone has a good recommendation I would appreciate it.

Stopped by Basset today they have a Parsons Bar and a Counter stool in a choice of leather colors (match your Berklines). Dark Java legs. I Sat in the dining chair version of the same chair and it was comfortable and well padded.

However it would run $500 chair and take 12 weeks. The search continues.

Update: Was on a little trip last week and had the occasion to continue my research into the perfect bar stool. My criteria is basically that it has to look good and come with a two hour comfort rating. By that I mean can I sit in it and imagine sitting it it for the duration of a movie.

I think I have found the balance of style, comfort and afford-ability.

I was at a restaurant and I noticed some good looking stools, I turned it over and got the Manufacturers name. Did some googling and found this chair.

http://www.mtsseating.com/images/catalog/details/933-30.jpg

the metal is commercial grade sturdy and comes in a variety of colors, 100+ choices of fabric, USA made, less than $150 each.

Also spotted these babies on their web site but haven't found a online vendor for the price yet.

You can see the chairs, colors and fabric choices at the MTS site:

If you see a chair you like, google the model number for an online vendor.

I found the first one at bizchair.com

I got my bar chairs here. Very similar to these, but I paid ~ 140 each.

You may want to check Costco and Sams if you have one in your area. I got mine from Sams. However, like most items they sell, the models change. I think I paid just over $100 bucks for mine. I can't find a manufacture's name anywhere though. Good luck.

I also bought my barstools at Namco. Close to that style.

They were "Continental" model. We bought the floor models for ~ $150. (regular price is $250)

Same chairs anywhere else start at over $300.

Made by Ashley furniture. I use them for my bar and found them cheap at a "Weekends Only" store. Very comfortable bar stool. They also make a matching counter height stool that I use as a third row of seats in the theater.

I scored these for $12.50 each at Target last August. They are amazingly comfortable for a long movie. My wife and I have sat in them several times when 7 or more people attend a screening.

At least I think they are the same ones. Man what a score at the price we got them at though.

Got lucky on them for sure as we went with them, because when we were putting together the theater we were dead broke. :) Of course the rest of our furniture is also microfiber camel, so the match was perfect.

Ya know I might just go ahead and get these as well..... With taxes and carpet install coming, we can always upgrade later if we want. I'm in the broke category right now as well.

They were a pleasant surprise for us on comfort. We don't have any plans to change them. Pre-teens and younger seem to love sitting up there on them. The wife and I only sit in them when the theater is full.

Thought I'd wake up the thread to see if anyone has new ideas on comfortable bar height seating for a third row. Preferably with a swivel and tilt but all options are welcome....

Bed Bath & Beyond (online) has a large selection of reasonably priced stools. I looked around for a while for stools for my overflow seating (at a counter behind the second row) and ended up with these from BB&B. I initially bought them as temporary stools since the price was great ($60/ea minus BB&B's regular 20% off coupon). But they're actually very comfortable, and I've had friends sit in them for an entire movie without any complaints. I'm in no rush to replace them anytime soon.

Frankly, I can't believe that so many people proudly showed really small, uncomfortable and "dinky" bar stools when your application is for watching a movie.

You have to get wide and very well padded bar CHAIRS with thick cusions, high and wide backs (and cushions). We bought ours from Sam's on sale - $100 apiece and made of aluminum for outdoor applications BUT I have four of them in our indoor game room and theater and they are SO VERY comfortable for sitting at the bar and enjoying a two hour film.

Bar Chairs are like big, wide and comfy regular chairs except they are taller and pushed up against a bar. Anything less is NOT for comfy sitting for long periods watching a movie.

I agree with vespaguy, Bed Bath and Beyond has some real nice stools. I am going to pick up these:

http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=16674273

They are real comfortable and i was very surprised to see they are only $99, even better when you get the 20% off coupons.

Bar stools are becoming really famous among the Sri lankans. But the bad news is there aren't any international brands available.

This is our dilemma now as well. We are looking at all sorts of different options for chairs some of the links in here are very interesting. Thanks and keep them coming.

I got mine at Costco. They were $99 but I had a $20 off coupon per bar stool bringing the cost down to $79 per bar stool. These would easily sell anywhere else for $150-$250 each. We like the looks and they are comfortable too. The $79 price tag was a huge bonus as we had to buy 10 of them. They have a wood back and brown leather type seats and are VERY sturdy. The best part is, if you don't like them, Costco will take them back.
