My 32 Sanyo HDTV (HT32744) has a black screen with sound, it was working fine last night. What can I do you fix it myself. Last time I had a T.V go black on me was years ago after watching the movie Altered States and the fix was to vacuum the dust off the CRT connector. I have a fair grip with regards to mechanical and electrical repairs but not much knowledge when it comes to T.V's other than mastering the remote. I had read that there is a way to turn up the CRT voltage, would that help restore the picture?
Thanks for any help
Dave
I can only give you my experience... hope it helps.
If you move the cables in the back a bit does this help at all?
I had a issue with my HT30744 in that if I moved the cables I'd either lose picture or the sound would sound like someone blowing in a microphone.
I think I fixed my issue (it hasn't happen again yet) by either opening up the case and cleaning the dust out or solidifying the tuner card with more screws... because I did both.
Funny that Sanyo only used 2 out of 6 screws to hold the tuner card in.
I noticed this after taking the cover off... there are really 6 screw holes to hold the tuner card in. The other 4 holes are covered with the sticker that shows the L and R for all the plugs... if you gently push with a pencil (or some such object) on the sticker in back you will find indentations where the other screw holes are clovered, just put some more screws in to solidify the card.
I assume Sanyo didn't use 6 just because some of the holes are right where the L and R are on the sticker.
Otherwise, Sanyo has a recall for sets that show green tint to them and you may be able to have it serviced for free... but from what I've read, all they do is clean the contacts... not sure if this is simply dusting it off or blanket soldering the card.
Hope this helps.
