Hmm... Well I don't actually own the samsung but I'm sure if you search around this forum you'll find some pretty negative things said about the 1080p7.
I do own the a3 and I've been happy with it as an upconvert on my 37" LCD. The a3 has a good rep as an upconvert but word around the HD DVD forum is the a30 and a35 are a little better. At 37" I suspect I wouldn't notice much of a difference so I'll stand pat- still you may want to consider one of those with the firesale on.

Personally I'd stay away from the sammy- and most other low end upconverts. Stick with a clearance HD DVD or just buy an oppo. Both are way ahead of the pack.
