I watch it on my ps3 through hdmi 720p and i can see plenty of noise on it and every blu-ray I've seen. I'm guessing it's either my tv or ps3, any suggestions? I'm using a hdmi cable from monoprice so I'm guessing that isn't the problem. My tv is a samsung ln-t3253h.

Most of the time the grain is supposed to be there. It was at the theater, and its on the Blu-Ray as well. Therefore you cannot say it is a "problem" because its supposed to be there :)

Why not ask your question in the tier thread?

The artificial grain is so bad I think everyone mistakes it as noise. GET IT OFF TIER 0!!!

Any movie shot using film will have grain. Hence "film grain". ;)

1337H4X,

When you are viewing with a 720P set, I don't think you are yet set up to critique a film. You might enjoy or not but remember 1080P has 1.5 more resolution. This something that's well within the capability of the human eye to discern. I can understand why you didn't post this in the tier thread.

most of this is repeating what's already been said but...

1. the grain is in the source nothing you can do about it except DNR the film to death which is a big no-no

2. 1080p downsized to 720p

3. standard "check your calibration" comment

The most you can get out of the Tier thread is a relative idea of whether a release looks 'good' or 'not good'. Any level of granularity beyond that is subjective and inconsistent BS.

I just wanna say I totally agree with the OP, I have been saying this forever in the Tier thread, they have Spider Man 3 in Tier 0 and then Rush Hour 3 in Tier 1 totally backwards, can we say glasses

I know that 1080p is the holy grail of HD right now, but I seriously doubt that the original poster is going to all of a sudden go "OMG! This is so much better than before!" if he/she switched to a 1080p display versus a 720p one.

1080p is better, yes, but not OMGWTFawesome better.

Spiderman 3 really was a disappointment to me in terms of PQ. Nowhere near that of other tier 0 titles such as the pirates movies. I never understood it's high ranking.

please use the tier thread - that's what it's for.
