Hey guys..
I read through a bunch of posts D* vs DIR, and alot was said about DIR coming out with a new satalite, and things will be changing...the last posts are a little old, So I was wondering if anything had changed recently that would change opinions of going D* vs DIR?

Comments?

Probably be best to check out the dbstalk.com site since most of the satellite information is over there.

A couple things to help with confusion.

When you write D* do you mean DISH and DIR for DirecTV? Usually D* is used as an abbreviation for DirecTV and E* is DISH (from Echostar).

DirecTV does have a new satellite (D11) launching Monday 3/17. This is basically a twin for D10 that became active last summer/fall and will significantly increase DirecTV's channel capabilities though it is expected to add more Local HD capacity and only a small increase in National HD channels. Assuming successful launch and testing it should become active the summer. Of course there aren't a lot of National HD channels not already on DirecTV though many of the current Nationals are struggling to find HD content (Disney and ESPN News are supposedly the next to be added).

DISH launched a satellite yesterday, but the launch had a major malfunction and the satellite is most likely not going to become active setting back DISH's channel expansion significantly

Thanks for the reply....
Sorry about the confusion. I didn't realize E* stood for Dish.
I was almost ready to pull the plug and go with E*, but now this sattelite failure has me reconsidering.
It seems like D* offers are good for one year, then the monthly charge goes up...but E* does not say anything about how long their current offer is good for before the price returns to normal.
I've had E* in the past for about a year and it seemed fine. Just want to chose to appropriate one since there is a contract to sign.
Also, D* has a charge for their DVR.

Good for you. When you get a chance, go order some reading glasses too.
