VMC has started using NVidia Purevidio and the Pic quality has suffered.

I Used Decoder Switcher to try several Codecs, other than MS Codec but stayed with MS Codec. As of last week I noticed Pic quality has dropped and NVidio is now my codec. It is available from TheaterTec, which I have ,but don't use.

I updated HDHR driver and noticed it reported NVidio codec as default codec. I opened decode switcher and checked that MS codec was set as default, which it was. Also noticed Nividio Purevidio shown running in systray.

System:
Vista Home Priem
Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H
x2 4800
HDHR

I updated CCC and HDHR driver and software twice over the last two Months.

Anybody know why this is happening?

I don't think it is possible for Nvidia's Purevideo MPEG2 decoder to be used in VMC since it cannot be used in EVR. Maybe someone else can confirm this.

I suggest trying another program like vcd to change the decoder being used. Maybe that will sort out the problem. You could also try uninstalling the nvidia codec or TheaterTek.

Lots of people are using the nvidia decoder in VMC. I've used it myself but found it too soft . I still use it for dvd and other playback through Theatertek with ffdshow.

The MS one stutters like mad and generally seems to freak out the avivo processing on my HD3870.Seems to have massive denoise and then a huge amount of sharpening...color decoding seems overcooked too.

I also suspect it just plain sucks with 50Hz (PAL) material although the Avivo stuff might also not be very good at 2:2 pulldown detection with the last couple of drivers anyway.( I'm not going to say anything about these features being US centric yet:rolleyes:).

The Dscaler 5 decoder has given me the best results so far ( mainly in LiveTV in VMC) I can get zero stutter a nice smooth picture that doesn't suffer from denoising or oversharpening and the Avivo deinterlacing seems to work pretty well with it ( make sure the output is NV12 using something like graphedit to access the filter properties. I do have to use the nvidia audio decoder ( the Dscaler 5 one doesn't seem to be accessible only the video decoder).

The next one I'll try will be the Avivo decoder from the Avivo encoder package which I only found pout about yesterday.I'm happy with the Dscaler5 decoder though.

Does anyone know where I can download the utility to change the default decoder used by VMC?

I am new to Vista and VMC
