I'm looking at both Oppo 983 and Denon 2930. Picture quality is more important to me as it will be used for watching movies..and occasionally music. Do you have experience in both players or any opinions? I would like to get Denon 3930 but price is a bit high.

You should have some feedback by the week of Mar 24 on this, if not sooner.

I've had the 2930 for a year and have a 983 arriving Mar 21.

Display is a Pioneer 6010.

same here....I have Pioneer 6010. Please post your opinion when you get a chance. I also have second thought on Denon 2910. Not sure yet.

Sure. I will spend some time this coming weekend on it.

For my clan, Harry Potter and CGI animation flicks are most of the DVDs we have/play.

I think I can scare up a POTC or two.

Any other suggestions?

excellent news. i am hoping that it will be on par with the 2930 as im looking to dump it for something cheaper, and the oppo 983 fits the bill. if the oppo turns out to be equal or better than the 2930, i would love to see a comparison on sd playback using the 983 vs. the denon 3800. looking forward to your review.

Like what has been said in the 2930/3930 thread, video-wise they should be close. However, someone noted that chroma filtering is not enabled on the 3930. Audio-wise is a different matter, and probably too subjective. The Denon 3800 is not at the same level wrt MPEG decoder and deinterlacer.
