Picked up this unit and have it connected to Tivo HD via S-video. However, the screen display is in B&W and when I record and playback it is B&W also. Tried a different S-video cable, made no difference. I haven't found anything in any setup menu that makes a difference either. Any ideas? TIA

Are you sure the SVideo cable is plugged in tight, on both sides? SVideo sends the black/white and color signals separately so a cable loose could very likely cause B&W only (have seen it many, MANY times-- usually after I've put all my equipment back and have to dig it all back out to check all the connections ;) )

Alternatively, since it's a Tivo HD (Which I have no experience with), is there any option for the output signals? I wonder if something about the ouput resolution tweaks the 480i outputs (Which is what the S-Video would be) -- try putting it down to 480i just to see if anything changes.

But I bet it has something to do with the cable(s) used, not in tight, or shorting, or something.

Ahh, that's an interesting topic, as I, too, was going to hook up my cable box via S-Video to my D-R400 when it comes. Now that you brought that up, I'm guessing that RCA/AV cables may be the way to go.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm doing the cable blind, but I tried two different ones. Yet, I can't help but think you may be right. Later today I'm probably going to pull the units out as far as possible one at a time and double check the cable insertions. Before I do that I may take the extra cable and check it in another easier setup to make sure it is working properly.

This is strange . . . . I pulled the units out. Put in a brand new S-Video cable and still black and white. I added a regular video cable, and voila, I now have color . . . and that's with the S-video cable checked as the input! Oh well, it works so I'm leaving it as is.

That's very weird. Sounds like you have a bad S-Video port to me.. or there's some other setting that's affecting it.... you might want to call Toshiba.

Well it is working fine. I have S-video checked on the input and it works fine as long as the video cable is in there, WEIRD, but it works fine so I'm going to let this sleeping dog be . . .
