I got the 'ok' to turn 1/2 of our two car garage into a makeshift home theater but here is the problem. The other half of the garage will still be used as a garage and I can't put up a permanent wall between the two halves. This leaves me attempting to divide the garage by hanging some sort of heavy cloth from ceiling to floor. My primary concern is the budget which almost doesn't exist anymore. It needs to keep the sound, as best as possible, from echoing off of the rest of the garage. The garage has a concret floor so I also need to find something to lay down in my portion of the garage, most likely carpet, that will keep the echoes down to an acceptable level. Light absortion is my last concern as I have gotten used to using my projector in a completely white room for the past year. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have!

Try stacking bags of unopened fiberglass insulation. Sound will penetrate the fabric, to be absorbed by the fiberglass. Really! If the plastic bags are thick, you may have to poke a lot of holes in them, or open up some bag surfaces in order to treat high frequencies.

And because it is a garage, it will probably look like you are simply storing some building supplies there. :)

That is really neat! I'd never heard of that before. How big are these bags? I'll have to swing by the local homedepot to take a look at these and see how many it would take. Thanks,
