What are the most re-watchable Blu-ray discs available? (especially the ones that are available in the UK or soon to be - but also US ones as they will hopefully be available in the UK one year maybe).

(I want to know want the most re-watchable ones are so I get my money's worth as they are more expensive here - and I want them to be good picture quality too please).

Thanks. Anyone else got recommendations too?

PS: Do any good Blu-rays have the extras in full HD?

Planet Earth and Casino Royale are up there on my list.

In no particular order (all titles below have first rate transfers) :

1. No Country For Old Men
2. Kingdom of Heaven
3. Apocalypto
4. The Fifth Element (Remastered)
5. Vertical Limit

Nope. The featuring of extras on HD depends upon the primary studio that holds distribution rights for the movie. Most of the extras on the above mentioned U.K Blu-rays are slim as the distribution studios have limited access to bonus materials. If the movie is a joint venture production then there is a possibility to get similar extras.

That's not very good then. So for most USA movies when they're released in the UK there won't be many extras on the Blu-ray disc but there will be on the USA release, and for ones that do have extras they won't be in HD. And it's because of rights (not because they can't fit everything on a 50GB disc or add a 2nd disc into the UK disc set?) :(

I think I've watched Kingdom of Heaven like 5 times now. Love that movie. Fifth Element also has a lot of re-play value for me. :)

And they are both great transfers.

Part of the issue with HD extras is whether they were produced in HD in the first place. For catalog titles that have been out several years, it's unlikely they would have been produced in HD. Frankly, although I like extras, I wouldn't mind if they kept them in SD, at least for single-disc releases, to leave more room for the video bitrate.

Although they're not everyone's cup of tea, I find musicals to be the most re-watchable movies. I skip around and play the different songs like I would for an album.

Considering that the current practice with so-called HD extras is to present them at bitrates of about 10, with PQ to match, there really is not much point to having them in pseudo-HD rather than SD.

This is very subjective; cuz one man's favorite could be the other's most garbage movie out.

But for me, rewatchable also means nothing too long. As much as I like Pirates, I cant watch it fully in one sitting. I rather have a short and sweet movie. Than a long and sweet one.

I have to go with Casino Royale, Live Free or Die Hard, and the Fifth Element (Remastered). I've watched these numerous times, and I've had blu ray less than 12 weeks, LOL.

I've owned Hairspray about a month, but I've already watched it twice. It's going to be the first disc I throw in once PS3 gets DTS-HD MA decoding, for sure. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's a phenomenal first effort from New Line!

My personal top 5 (and I don't know if all are available in the UK)

1. Planet Earth (BBC version)
2. 2001
3. The Fifth Element
4. Bladerunner Final cut (or the international theatrical version)
5. Starship Troopers (I know you limeys have this already:mad: )

These are all good for a once a year to every six months viewing for me.

I don't think the BR version of BHD is the "extended cut". Is it worth buying the theatrical edition? Do the extra 8 minutes add much to the battles (is there "uncut" content...though I seem to recall the movie was pretty violent).

thanks

Extended cuts is usually just made so you would rebuy the same movie twice.

Its also usually a reason why they didnt include the same scenes the first time.

BHD in its theatrical form is almost perfect in its pacing. I cant see what scenes makes the movie better, without also make it worse.

I've been rewatching all my movies since I got my new receiver to process lossless audio and new 7.1 Polk speakers. It's like watching some of these movies for the first time. I'll do the same again once my new sub gets here. There should be an Epik Castle on my doorstep around April.

LOL... even with BOGOs at $10-15 each I would say the same thing. Really this is just another way us poor types that don't have 155 Blu Rays in our signature can try and figure out "which movies should I buy?"
